Also, many lurcher enthusiasts just don't like, or keep, bitches. The only option for them is to source a new pup from someone else

I'm the opposite.... Can't stand a dog cocking it's f***ing leg and pissing every 5 yards... Drives me nutts?

Heres a greyhound/deerhound(first x) cross collie/greyhound(first x) the photos in Bill Dohertys book its his mates dog looks mighty fine to me and a decent dog by all acount

A few deerhound greyhound collie greyhounds I've had over the years. All very capable catch dogs, the big dog in the top pic would take teeth no problem and work round the hole all day long. A litter

Morton is alway praising this x.... I'd personally want a drop of wheaton or bull instead of the collie if it was me?

My dog is terrible for pissing on everything, windbreaks, bikes, pushchairs, small children ?

Cheers, D.

Had a wheaten x that loved pissing in lads wellies. Lol. Any new lad came out with us he'd have to hold rusty on the lead at some point during the day and as sure as shit rusty would piss down his leg. Lol.

Not just the rearing that’s not the problem I think sharks on about half the dickheads in this game that are pretenders then finding out down the road people who have had pups of you are horrible little c**ts that have dealt pups a shitty deck of cards an done wrong by them it’s a hassle to have on your mind even when people have vouched for people being decent

That would be my only worry with breeding. I would be happy to put the work in and give them a good head start. I would just worry about who they were going to. If you’re  in decent circles and can have some decent people put their names down For a pup then it might be worth breeding.

you do realise that because people Subaru or drive that the sheer amount of stuff they see determines the type of dog that’s needed.

im sure If the often eulogised deerhound grey was given a few encounters Near enough  back to back rather than one every couple of weeks and was capable of wanting more , then you would see more of them about .

Just a thought

If you want numbers you drive the land with a lamp,if you have a lurcher that struggles to catch what it easily kills then you drive the slug and drop it out of the motor on top of its knackered quarry.A daytime dog that hunts up its own chase, spy,s it hundreds of yards away and then can cover the ground and make up the distance that a slug never could. It will never account for anything like the numbers a 4x4 and lamp allows,it will account for,on a regular basis, better hunting and a more proficient ability.Id not own a Deerhound/Greyhound as I think they are a lost cause, ive seen far more Bull type lurchers far more useless.

Agree with that, you can never fully judge a deer dog by numbers, there’s far too many variables in the way people run them.

Obviously the dog needs to take a reasonable tally to be classed as a good dog but I’ve seen a few very average that have accounted for numbers by the owners stacking the odds in their favour.

Why would anyone want to breed a litter this time of year and take a.bitch out of action with a new season upon us ? Only a peddlar would knock out pups now

Suppose it depends on what time of year a bitch has a seasons some bitches are yearly some every 6months an dependant on motives for breeding in the first place

Stiffy, I have to say, that your posts on this thread are a tad silly, seeing as you didn't even know, until I pointed it out to you, that  there was saluki blood in your minshaw lurcher lol

Aye alright .

we’re talking deerhound crosses and there was an insinuation in a post that the cross is too good to be used by a younger generation of owners when in reality they are dross
