grompz 703
been a big supporter of the deerhound greyhound, but just recently been thinking about getting one with abit of good working collie blood in it, never seen one work or heard any reports on them, what would be the best way to go if you wanted to produce one for working, well aware of the fact that good strains of deerhound are getting harder to obtain, but surely good working hill collies will still be about, remember phil lloyd used to run them in the seventies, and im sure he wouldnt have kept them if they were poor doers. thanks for replies. bird 9,863
they were popular in 70s d/g/c xs good for few rabbits the odd hare , why not go bullx grey x collie x grey, you got more chance of getting a pup that way and make good alrounder not many deerhound typexs about today. poxon 5,718
I like the sound of deerhound greyhound x collie greyhounds over the more modern xs Tbh but have a really sneaky liking for the sound of 3quarter greyhound bull x f1 Bedlington greyhound to a deerhound/greyhound I recon I’d be in prison in no time owning a dog like that as I’d probably avoid legal quarry an concentrate just on bigger stuff think that’s why I stick to the medium collie beddy greyhound mixes because there chancers there have a crack but not specialist at nothing an can be used as a general hunting dog. My cousin an his mate run collie greyhound deerhound greyhounds years ago they would take fox an deer no problem they weren’t really used as rabbit dogs but would catch a few given opportunity to 1 Quote Link to post

lurchers 2,761
When we ran the deerhound x greyhounds In the 80s-90s they all done everything and were really good on the big stuff and teeth.I wouldn’t have a bullx or Salukix given as there not for me.I do like the Wheaton x which might be nice in the deerhoundxs. My son got a deerhound/greyhound x bull/greyhound of John slack a few years ago when he lined a keepers bitch and it just looked like a strong deerhound greyhound and done everything he was a powerful animal. 2 Quote Link to post
THE STIFFMEISTER 15,686
One of the worst lurchers I’ve ever seen was a deerhound collie grey dog was a liability to itself and anything around it ended up on three legs and became fertiliser soon afterwards was from supposed top breeding as well from down wales total article next worst was a deerhound greyhound that had a sense of importance but came unstuck with a lab and another lurcher in a kennel fight. yeah , not a fan of anything deerhound bred to be honest . although I’d give a one back to a Sal grey a blast Quote Link to post
