Greb147 6,809
The old glass back is playing up again, it seems I am now getting sciatica after just about any form of tension, be that from grafting at work or any strenuous exercise. Now I've been to see a chiropractor once or twice but felt I was getting fleeced, I ended up going to a sports massage therapist and obviously it hasn't done the trick. Now I've read up on different practices so not sure what is the best way to go? If anybody has had the same problem what did you find best, physiotherapists, chiropractors, windolene? It's getting on my tits now cos whenever I do something physical you can bet it will trigger it a day or two after. I've always been told once your back goes it will never be right again, I'm starting to think that's true! Frustrating as f**k cos I wanna get training again without any niggles. My back was bad about 20yrs ago the guy I seen said it was out of line he sorted me out in 30mins.i couldn't believe the difference when I got off the table truly amazing.you could hear my back clicking and feel it.he put electric pad things on first to warm the muscles and was turning the power up every few mins. He was the physio for neath rugby club. So my advice would be to get down your local rugby club and find out who the physio is. He will sort you out and have a little bit of cash in his pocket..

Since 18 I've grafted like f**k on the railway lifting some serious weights that include equipment and materials. I was the biggest and the youngest in the gang so it was always me lifting and carrying things others couldn't, I always used to take the piss out of blokes moaning about their back. Tbh I think half of them were just lazy c**ts and didn't really suffer from it. Anyway about 6 years ago I came off the railway for a bit and got a job at Aldi picking where I stayed for about 10 month. I loved the job tbh, mainly because for the first time in my life I was working with woman as well as men, let's just say it was a laugh for a single lad. It was a great shift and I was usually finished by the late mornings so I joined the gym for the first time in my life. I was used to lifting heavy weights at work but never done a weights program in the gym, apart from one or two sessions before. I can recall deadlifting without using the proper technique, I think I was arching my back when I lowered the weight. I can remember after one session my back feeling compressed after deadlifting. There was no pain just tightness. Now I'm not sure if it was the next day but it was soon after at work when I bent over to pick some tins up I got the biggest shooting pain in my back and down my arse in to my leg, it felt like I'd been belted by an electric shock. I don't know if it was the deadlifting that caused it or the bending and twisting at work. It has never been right from that day, chiropractor has said one thing and massage therapist another thing. I'm gonna book in not a physiotherapist then and see if they can sort it out, I hope it's muscular and nothing to do with my disc. I do though think it is something to do with the disc because sometimes when it goes by vertebrae feels really sore and painful when touched, like a hot poker is pressed on it. If it is muscular I don't understand how just one injury can still cause this recurrence 5-6 years later.
WILF 47,158
Aye, that’s f****d.....mines the same. All those massage blokes and chiropractors and all that are a complete waste of money I found.......slow stretches, anti inflammatory tablets when it starts to get sore, tens machine, back support when it does go. Just accept that it’s never going to be right and then you learn to be careful with it.

Like I said I want to start training but scared to do anything like squatting or deadlifting incase it goes properly and I have to have time off work.

I don’t think there is a cure for a bad back mate, least I have never heard of one. Its purely just management and recognising the warning signs, I can be fine for a year and then bang, Cant f***ing walk.....it’s as random as that. I am over weight and can still play football and go to the gym, I just know what I have to do to stay right and if it’s sore I rest it, take anti inflammatory for a few days and hope it don’t flatten me. 1
MH1 1,873
Knackered mine doing weights, don't bother with deadlifts or back squats now, just do front squats instead, also try and hang off things like pull up bars etc to stretch out the spine.
