 Best fox dog I ever seen was a full greyhound bitch Straight if the track. Took some time socialising but came good. She would take them with ease and never came off any. 
 

unfortunatly she was stolen before a litter could be taken. Useless on deer but fox she was unreal

I've found the exact opposite really where greyhounds are concerned. Can't remember even one not being keen on deer

All fast game, bird. Maybe pigs but we are in the south so not many of them down here. Hoping to produce some fast, one out dogs with good endurance. The people we give them to should expect honest solo workers capable of putting vermin on the back of the ute.

Agree, although you do get the odd one that is not true to their heritage and lacks instinct / drive. The Greyhound is the only "non tampered" with breed which is still used for what it was bred for. No show people have fckd with the breed for looks / ring. 

A lot of the old timers down here (Australia) often comment the old coursing greyhounds were the best dogs they ever kept.

show greyhounds exist and are awful, a greyhound is an essential ingredient in lurcher breeding but for me that's it, they are not capable of doing what I wanted from a running dog, physically or mentally.

I dont think any person in this game would go near a show greyhound mate, esp given the abundance of them outside of that scene that are working / racing and available (same can be said for a Deerhound if that was someones thing also). 

All comes down to horses for courses in my opinion.

Hugely under rated animal the greyhound. Far from the perfect pot filler but top class athletes in their own right & none of us would have what we’ve got now without them.

I'd agree that the greyhound is a supreme athlete and the fastest racing dog to have ever existed, or ever will, but there's plenty of non tampered with breeds out there still doing their stuff

Sloughis in north Africa  and around to Asia doing fox, Jackal and Wolf till the Tazi takes over, then there's salukis in their homelands and Galgos in Spain etc etc...................

There's plenty breeds around the world still doing what they were bred for, including the Polish Chartpolski, Russian Borzoi, Indian Rampur and Caravan hounds, to name a few..........but they are as rare as Ricky horse shite, so finding a genuine one as a base for lurcher breeding is nigh on impossible!

Best stick to the tried and tested Greyhound, methinks !
