Car clocking?

Like Dogmandont said though the garage is full of one owner ex-company cars so I'm thinking they buy them just before they have their first MOT and clock them then, a company car can rack up a massive amount of miles in those first 3 years.

For all I know they might be legit now after being rumbled but they are still run by the same blokes, I could f**k them off and still end up with a clocked car from another dealer.

I hate f***ing hate buying cars! ?

Service history should give you a clue if it's been clocked .. not hard to realise if a car has done 60 thousand miles a year for the first 2 years of its life then nothing in its third year it's got a high probability of being clocked .. no history with car walk away simples

Should milage not be recorded on every mot?

That’s why I’d rather pay £800 with the high mileage than 3k clocked ??

thing is service history is only as honest as the guy that stamps the book, many local small garages do friends a favour.

On a car as new as dogfox is looking bet most are dealer serviced , most dealers will throw in a service pack when selling the car .. who's going to turn down free services just so there mate Dave can do the servicing just incase the car needs clocking .

I personally know a lad with 3 transits and 7 belingos on the road for his business all on lease with limits on the mileage but he still goes to a small local garage so he can fiddle the miles and the service history.

Only way know mileage is genuine is if you've put them on yourself.

I still think all that info is hidden inside the cars computer personally, a lad I no bought a merc sprinter a while back from a big national van centre with 70 000 on the clock, he took it to Mercedes and they plugged it in it highlighted the fact it had over 300 000 on it but even showed up were the clocking had taken place,  maybe the people that done it were crap but  I think it’s all in there somewhere if the person looking knows were to look ?

You could be right Greyman. It was just something I heard but don't know how accurate it is.

Why do BMW owners talk about E this and E that? Why not just use model and engine size?

Cheers, D.

Because as an example the 3 series has been in production for maybe 40 years ,the E dictates what years the car was from starting with the E21 and now we're on G20.
