Ossie 11
wow, shit, didn't think my boy would cause so much debate! like i said, can't be 100% on his breeding, but a good friend of mine, who has kept & bred lurchers for the last 30-odd years, insists Gyp is a first cross, just a rather unusual one, and his previous owners said first cross. IMO he's far too bright & tractable to be any more than 1/2 saluki, but that's just my opinion! we didn't have that many litters out of him. he got to my mums beddy/whippet x greyhound, resulting in a litter of deerhound lookalikes. we kept one back but she died of lepto when she was 3. we were loaned a greyhound to breed him with, got a big litter (14 surviving pups), kept the 2 best & the rest went back to the bitches owner (a well known local dog & horse dealer), and went as betting dogs. i have no idea who had any of them. we still have a dog & a bitch from his bloodline, the bitch has never had a litter & is too old to breed from, and the dog is a bit nuts! how old are those 2 dogs ossie? bitch is 9, black with brindle legs, jacks grandaughter. the dog is her nephew, jacks great grandson, and is about 6 i think. big black hairy thing, he's got more collie & greyhound in him than saluki. Meerihunter 7
For a first Saluki X Grey to produce feathered pups the greyhound must be carrying recessive long coat gene therefore the greyhound can't be pure. One of my dogs from the past, not a first cross but Saluki/GreyXSaluki/Grey. Edited January 11, 2008 by Meerihunter Quote Link to post
