I guess you pay what YOU think a pup is worth. My last one was exactly what I was looking for, a well bred first cross Deer Grey. The guy wanted £250, a pittance, I thought, for the right dog. I

when   I was a kid there were lots of  mongrels and they would all work pretty much, and were free mostly, sweep was 10 bob and caught hundreds of rabbits far more than the runners.

Anyone got a spaniel to put over my. Bedlington bitch we could knock out some ( Bed springs ) at a grand each ? ?

I know people that have done it for years never paid a penny in tax, crossbreeds can’t be registered with any kennel club so no way of proving how many pups were born/sold

I have a  teem of cockers of my own breeding, and I often have lads  wanting pups and if  I need one  I do it,  they will be fair for the breed, but spare pups have to be going rate or they be bought up and sold on.

Law changed on breeding dogs last October, don't matter whether cross breed or pedigree, selling pups or adult dogs is classed has a business, inland revenue have inspector's checking internet sites full time, don't forget they can go back years.

In realality is there anyone out there gona pay that sort of cash ?unless there a idiot with more money than sense ?

Course they will. £2000 for a pup probably makes that look cheap to some folk who could never train a dog. To be fair for some folk it’s probably worth it to actually have a dog they can let off the lead ?
