Putanges - Made in Yorkshire!

Talk about a full circle. I see that Flatpack are making the French Putange mole traps. About bloody time too what with Brexit and all that.

I also had to laugh at the guy on ebay claiming to be the only one selling original French Putanges. How the feck can he claim that when there is no trademark, registration of the name or product definition? There must be at least ten different types of French made Putange, so what makes his original. They've been around for 300 years FFS? And he claims that they are stainless steel. They aren't. They are the bog standard mild steel ones.

They should be good from Flatpack. They seemed to reduce the quality of the stainless Duffus traps a few years ago, but the last batch I got from them were a lot better.

I am surprised that their Putanges aren't stainless. Stainless ones are a far better option for pro's.

Yes, the ones l have came with  coat of copper ,as if someone had dipped them in a copper sulphate solution for an hour. That"s about how long the "plating" lasted

I don't know if it had been done to protect them in storage or just to make them look pretty. They work fine but if l buy more l will look for stainless l think.

I don't know why the coat them in copper paint or whatever it is. The touching parts wear through straight away and it is those points that are critical to the trap's action. It wasn't the rust that was the main problem though. I found that after a while they became too weak.

Those traps on ebay sold by Paulus73 aren't stainless. They are the bog standard traps available more cheaply elsewhere. I don't know how he is getting away with it.

It was started about the Flatpack Putanges. I only found out that they were making them a few days ago.

But as you mention it, my brother-in-law does sell exactly the same type of trap as the other guy who claims to be the only UK seller of them.

I pinched a couple of Duffus style traps off a mate the other day as i was short. Found em poor quality....was really shocked when I saw they were stamped flat pack. I guess they are the same ones you are talking about. 

They just didn't feel right. Like a no name Chinese copy

Flat pack have changed designs/ materials several times over the years. They are made by a company who has produced industrial springs for years ( not mole catchers) I much prefer their older ones before they started doing only stainless barrels.

 

Still the nest quality Duffus traps I have found by far. Ill definitely try their putanges

Thee first Flatpack stainless traps I bought in 2012 were the dog's nutts. They weren't stamped with the company name unlike the second batch I got from them a year later. These were wider and had a shallower profile and the body and springs were made out of thinner gauge metal. I found them too wide, I seem to recall they were well over 70mm whereas the originals were 65mm, same as the old Duffus branded trap I have. I asked Flatpack about the changes and they wouldn't answer the questions saying that they hadn't altered the specifications which I found disappointing as they obviously had.

In the end I put them in the vice and squeezed them down to 65mm width and then had to re-tune each one as the pressure on the latch was greater after I had altered them. As a test I put one of the originals in the vice and squeezed that smaller. It sprung back to shape. Different animal altogether.

The last batch I ordered last year were much better than the previous ones but not as good as the first batch. I also tried three non stainless traps a few years ago and they were little better than some of the un-branded galvanised  traps you find all over the place. The wires were harder but that was it.

That’s absolutely brilliant news, when I told the lad on eBay he was talking out of his arse ( on a mole catching group on Facebook) he fcuked me off with shite and one of our more prominent pest controllers On here backed him.... tossers, who’s laughing now eh boys bet you ditch your mate and buy from the new source..

Having handled both traps they aren’t the same animal

flatpacks are weaker

you can open them by hand 
I’ll stick with the copper ones

If that is the case, and I don't doubt you, it brings into question who have been doing the trials the company talk about?
