Guest Ditch_Shitter
Books? (There's no 'magazines' that I've ever heard of). The two I always reccomend are: 1. The Complete Book of Ferrets, by Val Porter and Nicholas Brown. Pelham Books. c. 1985. Available for about a score today, it's a big, hardback book to treasure. A delight to read and a mine of sound info. 2. The Ferret and Ferreting Guide, by Graham Wellstead. c. 1979'ish??? Available for probably under a tenner today? I haven't checked lately. Smaller, slimmer, hard back than the above. But a wealth of good, sound, basic advice on How To. Alternatively; Spend a whole lot more on a 'Locator' and spade. Ye'll save a lot of money and time on reading instructional manuals, learning from experienced people and messing with nets though, as ye can simply chuck a ferret down the hole then dig the ferret and rabbits out. Absolutely NO knowledge required. Quote Link to post
Guest Magwitch
lets not try to turn this into the same old locater argument a Ditch, but the val porter book is the best one ive read Quote Link to post
Ludwig 0
I got a copy of the Welstead book in Ottackars (now waterstones two years agofor 9.99) and I think its a good read. The other good thing for getting info is to ask on here as some of the others on here have read all the books, others still have done everything and even better a few of them have written the books (rumour has it) . Absolutely NO knowledge required. I have the Wellstead book and have read it lots of times, it was my bible when i was a teenager! And what DS was hinting at with the locator/spade comment is, the essence of ferreting is to quietly set nets and then enter the ferrets to BOLT the rabbits into the said nets, dont walk all over the warren smoking and talking on your mobile and then rely on the locator to find the ferret and the rabbits it has bottled up/slain due to your own ineptitude! sadly there are too many modern ferreters who have forgotten the true essence of ferreting! QUIETLY QUIETLY CATCHY MONKEY (for monkey read rabbit!) Quote Link to post
