To put this in the context of dogs, racing whippets in particular, the following may give some people pause for though; In the late 60's early 70's I was the Handicapper at a couple of whippet tracks. The scratch dogs, the fastest dogs of the day were doing about 9 seconds dead for 150 yards. Thats around 16 yards per second. When I got back into the racing a few years back, I simply couldn't believe the times I was told the dogs were now doing, 8 seconds for 150 yards, with some exceptional dogs even faster. Now, one second faster doesn't seem a lot, but it translates as 16 yards faster over 150 yards ! I simply couldn't believe that the scratch dogs of today could give the scratch dogs of 50 years ago 16 yards start, so I bought a stop watch and timed them myself, and it was true ! They were doing these times ! How have the dogs got so much faster ? They get the same training, the same feeding, run on the same tracks, out of the same traps, timed with the same equipment, so how could it happen ? Well, the only difference I could see was "Selective Breeding" Years ago we bred from our own bitches to the local villages or council estates best dog, but for many years now, they've been travelling the country, breeding best to best. If a dog or bitch isn't good enough, it isn't bred from ! I don't know how this relates to Owens and Bolt, but it's convinced me that dogs are getting faster ! Where will it end ? Who knows, Cheers. If your talking about .say 20 yrs Rich ,that's not even a generation in human terms ,maybe 8,9 or 10 generations of dogs , If a human was bred fastest to fastest for 300 hundred years then Usain might get a bit of competition ,it's as the man says ,nutrition and sports science ,equipment ,more of the globe taking part and an acknowledgment that different body types suit different sports ,I am the perfect build for darts for example .

Interesting that you mention darts, Alex. Darts is probably my favourite sport. I remember when players averaging 80-90 would win the big championships, but now they wouldn't get to the quarter finals. Taylor was the first to regularly get over 100 average, but now there's a lot get 100 average, and the top players can get over 110 ! What changed ? Well darts got a lot thinner for the weight, thanks to tungsten, and boards improved with thinner wires and lack of staples, leading to slightly bigger scoring areas, but I still think the players skill and accuracy improved. Nine dart finishes are expected now rather than being a rarity. Of course the banning of smoking and drinking may have helped ! LOL ! Cheers.

Us humans are not bred for performance, I'm sure Mr and Mrs Bolt didn't breed to create a super athlete. Now if Usain Bolt started banging Marion Jones and their kids mated with the kids of other athletes, in the future then it could be done. Well in reality that’s kinda Of what has happened to allow the likes of the us athletes of the track , field, NBA and nfl . it’s also why you don’t find an athlete like Michael Johnson or Jordan in the DR of Congo it’s just that no one wants to talk about it

THE STIFFMEISTER 16,186
Exactly that slavery was a two century window of eugenics breeding . its howling if you don’t speak about it in a detached fashion But it’s wrong not to deny it hasn’t happened
THE STIFFMEISTER 16,186
To put into perspective , Aaron Donald , the defensive tackle of the L A Rams runs 40 yards in 4.6 secs , lifts 220 lbs 35 times consecutively and weighs 130 kilos . the man is basically a f***ing rhino you can’t get that with just training , Nutrition or enhancements it has to be in you to be ignited

Not with the commonality Of the average us collegiate freshman year no . don’t quote me the locality phenomenon Of the distance runners from the east Africa equatorial countries or the South African private schools programmes as theY are anomaly’s across the entire continent . no one is saying that the Africans aren’t athletic , just the average African American athlete is more likely to have those attributes that conduit themselves to success than their African fore bears
