bird 10,004
castration in dogs, was talking to a bloke today, who got 13 month old male french bulldog, a nice strong dog for the breed, but a prat for dogs smaller than it self , tried mounting / roughing up little woody, woody had go right back , but at 10 lb, that thing was twice his weight , and fair bit taller , plus woody near 10 now so dont want any hassle , he put Buck in his place as he knows he can, and old bryn now, but apart from these 2 dogs , woody dont bother with other dogs he meets. the lad said he getting him done Thursday . fair enough , the dog deff need somthing done to it , i told him that i never had any male lurchers dog aggressive , bull breeds were , but not me lurchers . funny thing the most aggressive lurcher i had, was kellpie x collie x grey bitch ,50 odd lb strong with i as well, she tackle anything on 4 legs from rottie to jack , didnt bother her size , she try to kill them ,she piled in to labx rottie one day , you think there was pit in her the way she grabbed it. but i will say this though , at least she have go at any dog, where as this french bulldog only picking on dogs smaller than it self, ive had it with other dogs as well , they dont bother with Buck or bryn but make a beeline for little woody , in my mind there cowards , they aint got the guts to tackle bigger dog like Buck or bryn. dont know if that dog having his nuts off will stop him , some people say it does and some say not .? i dont know never had with male lurchers most mine are bloody wimps anyway, well Buck is with dogs lol, bryn ok but will pop at them if dog tried it on him , but he ok really , me bull breeds you had to watch them , i kept them on lead with other dogs play it safe . so dont know what people think about ? 3 Quote Link to post
Redace 41
French Bulldogs at a funny age 13 months giving it the big one. My dogs 15 months and I had couple of issues with him the other month when generally hes good as gold. Nothing major just looked bad, so had him on the flexi for a bit and watched out for other dogs when running. I saw a saluki cross last week who's just had the chop because he bit his owner. Hes lost a hell of a lot of muscle definition and maybe speed. I castrated my bull breed years ago and he lost shape aswell, it did stop dogs going at him a bit but I think it's a bit of a money spinner tbh. I've had people tell me that their dog is growling at my whippet because hes entire..... what a load of bollocks. Quote Link to post
NE_Monkey 159
I think some folk just castrate dogs because they always have or its the first thing they see on the internet or advice from uninformed others. Alternatively; If castrating doesn't work, take a leg off so he can't catch you, if that doesn't work take an eye so he can't judge the distance of his bite, if that don't work take his canines out. and if all else fails train it. 1 Quote Link to post
chartpolski 24,804
Most aggressive dog I've had was a Manchester terrier, and he'd been castrated. Least aggressive dog I've had was a Doberman bitch that was spayed, Go figure...... Cheers. Quote Link to post

Daniel cain 46,387
I won't do it to a dog, unless it's for a medical condition.... I won't tolerate any dog/bitch that likes a scrap either .... Early socialising is the key imo... I had a black dog back 20 yrs ago that was a Cnut with any other dog or bitchI couldn't live like that again... Needing eyes in your arse all the timegranted some dogs are just wired wrong, and only thing that will sort it is, one behind the ear 4 Quote Link to post
terryd 8,680
Funny this should pop up was thinking of getting mine done. But his 6 now and doubt it would help. His a pain on a lead and other dogs that are well behaved go nuts when they see him. My mate has a male greyhound that hardly ever barks and is the most well behaved dog. I said lets meet for a walk on the road both on leads. His dog saw mine coming from miles away and kicked right off. They spent the whole walk wanting to get at each other. I have given him hard time but it didnt help Quote Link to post
MH1 1,888
I was under the impression that they'll be worse with their balls off as the testosterone "steadies" them up a bit, and any dogs that have a sniff aren't sure what to make of them as they aren't getting the Male hormones as feedback? Rickshaw swami 4,191
My father had a few blackmouth curs.He had the males castrated because they are growly and waste alot of time pissing on every stick when they should have been hunting. They were definitely more focused afterwards but I can't speak of other breeds. 1 Quote Link to post
low plains drifter 10,766
Been to buy basmati rice, double checked it wasn't the easy cook stuff, I like the toil of boiling then rinsing the standard variety puts me through 1 Quote Link to post
Aussie Whip 4,159
I would'nt get a working running dog castrated or bitch spayed they generally put on too much condition and lose shape and muscle tone.I do think it makes them more focussed on work though without the worry of sex driven behaviour.A pet bull breed is much better neutered imo.My daughter's pit is more devoted to guarding the family and doesn't stink in the house. He had nuts the size of tennis balls when they dropped and was getting too much to handle. He is a much more dedicated loyal dog now and is an even better guard, but has lost a lot of defined muscle. Better to just put the c**t in it’s place if it’s showing aggression to you that doesn’t work put it to sleep acting up round other dogs is because it hasn’t been socialised round a pack a dogs you leave a pup in with older dogs from a pup it learns what’s acceptable real quick makes for a lot less hassle Quote Link to post
