Sounds all wrong don't it 17g CCI 20 grain are the most accurate in mine, but I haven’t used them for a long time because they weren’t as effective as the 17 grain TNT’s or BT’s. 1 Quote Link to post

I’ve tried all makes over time but I’ve found that the Remington 17g vmax are best suited for the gun I have which is exactly the same as yours varmint barrel as well, and I’ve owned it over 10 years with no issues, apart from the well documented split cases squib batch of ammo that was knocking about a few years back I got one stuck up the tube. 1 Quote Link to post

Deker 3,478
In the early days several firms made HMR ammo but they slowly dropped out to the point where everyone was saying ONLY CCI make HMR ammo, so I asked them, admittedly this was a while back now and things may have changed, but apparently they don't make the Winchester!!! > From: cciexpert@ATK.com > To: Me > Subject: RE: CCI Ammo - Ask the Expert Form > Date: Tue, 29 Oct 2013 17:37:40 +0000 > > Deker, we don't make Winchester 17HMR ammunition and there may others. > > Make Every Shot Count! > Justin M. > CCI/Speer > 2299 Snake River Ave > Lewiston, ID. 83501 1 Quote Link to post

Winchester where the only ones my HMR (spit) liked. They where and possibly still are the only Hmr ammunition not made by CCI. 1 1 Quote Link to post
Sausagedog 7,381
Yes mate. I am aware that CCI make most of the HMR ammo. Another question to ask probably should be, is there and difference or customisation between the different brands? They, the customer may stipulate a powder type or their own maybe. As with anything you will be able to have ammunition made to your own specs. However would it really be feasible. If CCI are making ammo for a variety of companies how much extra would it cost to have them shut production down and alter everything to your specs. I think all the ammo coming from CCI will be the same just packaged and labeled differently. Winchester are definatley different to Hornady because mine grouped like a shotgun with the latter. 2 Quote Link to post
Sausagedog 7,381
I know every rifle is different and all that but my wmr was very ammo fussy. It was however just bad bedding. When I fixed it it was suddenly hard to decide which ammo was worse, they all grouped all of a sudden! Sounds like this may also be a trait of hmr too! It's ok, I'm use to fixing this kind of thing. I've got to refinish the stock so will be checking the bedding also 1 Quote Link to post
