Kennel club pedigrees are bred for look and not for purpose. So Galgos have some variation as it doesn’t matter what they look like but what they perform like, having said that the mainstream Group one hounds are pretty level these days as they all compete in similar events so a type has developed that one can see in the national but smaller local events, groups 2 or 3, still show a little local variance and the odd rough coat still turn up. Historically different areas had slightly different types to suit the ground they ran so long staying sleek animals for the open plains whereas stronger rough coats for the mountains etc. The English greyhound was the same up until organised coursing brought a type that was then polished by racing as we see in Galgos today. There were size and coat variance in the greyhound until then. Pedigree salukis, Sloughis, Greyhounds, Galgos all look the same and people see them as the type but the working strains are different, the salukis belonging to the rich sheiks who turn up once a years to see their pedigree kennel full of pure salukis run aren’t the same as the working salukis, the same with Sloughis etc. Racing grey. Pedigree. Pedigree salukis. Working salukis. Pedigree Sloughis. Working Sloughis. Pedigree Galgos Coursing Galgo Edited December 19, 2022 by sandymere Quote Link to post

Pedigree Galgos Coursing Galgo with breeding for purpose comes a similar look different variation across spain when it’s tiny for instance the saluki was bred for performance and looks the same from iraq to israel id say the galgos is quite scatterbred 1 Quote Link to post
