Well the time came for me to say a sad farewell to my old Brno 22lr I’ve been unable to get a decent group for ages . I’ve cleaned it properly and couldn’t work out why it was performing so badly. Finally I took it to a custom rifle maker whose workshop isn’t far away for him to look at . In about 10 seconds he told me the barrel was bent .
I use it for humane dispatch when I’m out with the terriers so there is every  likelihood that it was stepped on . He said it could probably be straightened but said that the condition it’s in it was probably time for a new one .
So I looked on Guntrader and found a 16” Tikka T1x  . I’ve put a deposit on it and sent off my variation . I left my old rifle with the dealer who is going to cut it up . I had a moment of sentimental memories as I watched him take it to the back of the workshop and threw it in a box . That rifle has killed some stuff with me and has been a brilliant tool , a sad end for an old friend, a bit like leaving a dog at the vet to be put down , but not quite.

Well here she is and I’m not disappointed. I kept my old mod and sling but I’ve added a cheap and cheerful Hawke 3x9x50 and it is shooting Winchester subs at 50 meters in a tight group . Good enough f

I’m doing a like for like , the dealer is scrapping my old 22lr and I’m getting a new 22lr.   It’s a nice short 16” gun to keep in the truck .
I like a nice quiet rifle , it helps pass the time as I’m going around at work if I see a squirrel or other vermin I shoot em . It’s cheap to  feed and deadly accurate at a sensible range .

You shouldn't need a variation then if its like for like. I don't even know if they've even opened up to start looking at them (variations/grants etc) again yet pal.

The dealer should have filled in your ticket as scapped, leaving the slot open again.

I think you do , I’ve sent off the variation application and told them the old one is scrapped and also asked for the amount of ammo I can store to be upped . I delivered the envelope by hand , I’m prepared to wait a while .

I’ve read that they’re only doing renewals at the moment and requests for variations are being sent back. As you say Gav, a friend of mine sold his .22 to buy another, he phoned firearms and they told him to get the rfd to write on his ticket that it had been swapped for another of the same calibre. That was a few years ago mind.

Well I'll go to the foot of my gannies stairs. I think individual forces just make up their own rules, last time I swapped rifles like for like, was just a straight swap and the RFD did the paper work, I sent my puchase copy off and hey ho, done.

I'm going to have to check now things haven't changed here??

You've done right though SL better safe than sorry, hope it comes through speedy for you pal ✌️

It’s a money spinner gav, best way to get round it is put two of the same down on your variation.. one for day one for night vision rig so if your not happy with what you buy you can get rid and get another?

You have made me wonder , so I rang a mate up who is a RFD and I’ve done the right thing . I’ve also emailed the firearms dept to tell them what I’ve done and asked them to see if there id anything that can be done , as I need it for work . In all fairness Gloucestershire firearms have been first class , and I’ve always found them helpful and quick .

Sad times when an old friend has to go, but them baby ticktocks  are lovely, the only rimmy I’ve used that has a feel of a centrefire ?

That’s what I do, got 2 .17’s, the browning has and mtc viper on it and the cz used to have a Yukon on it, maybe one day I’ll get round to fitting another nv to the cz

I just liked the length, it also looks like it will take a knock or two , because it is going to have a hard life in and out of the truck and mule .
In all fairness the Wierauch would have been my first choice but it’s a bit more expensive and I wouldn’t want to abuse it because it’s so nice . The CZ is a great gun too and you can get them with a stainless barrel which is a big plus . Can’t wait to get my hands on it now .

When Leicestershire start variations again my old B,S,A CF2 .308  is going to the scrapheap ,im going to replace the tired old gal with a   .270 due to school building out of my control.

They built a new school  over a mile away and downgraded my land to .270 but the 8ft berm and valleys are still as steep as they,ve always been ???

As the cf  has been jamming ,locking up and scraping cases ive given up on her ,she only cost 75 quid 7 years ago so owes me nothing but until restart i,m stuck with her .

You,l enjoy your Tikka ,my little cz452 is only a 14"  so ideal truck tool mind the wife says so,s the driver
