Jasper92 5
Hi, I have just acquired some new permission which has a small pond on the edge of a wood. The pond is approx 20m x 8m and around 1 1/2 foot at its deepest. Just wondering if anyone has any advise of feeding and attracting ducks to get a couple of flight shoots throughout the season. As far as I know, it has never been shot or fed. Any help much appreciated. Quote Link to post

shovel leaner 7,650
Feed regular, shoot once a fortnight, never go without a dog that can retrieve off water , and don’t shoot more than you need . 1 Quote Link to post
Stavross 15,284
My first question is, have you seen duck on it and has it got clear space for the duck to come in high or will you have to clear a bit of timber, if you have see duck coming in then spend a bit of time watching where they come from, feed the edges with corn and a few spuds Quote Link to post

There is a couple of pairs mallard On a beck that runs along the length of the wood. As for the space, I have cleared 4 or 5 large trees from the edge of the pond which has left a large opening in the canopy. You can just see the gap at the far end of the picture 1 Quote Link to post
Stavross 15,284
It looks a decent splash, I’d feed it because once you get a couple on it more will follow 1 Quote Link to post
Jasper92 5
Been down the pond this afternoon and there was a pair of Mallard come off on arrival. Fed the edges with barley and potato skins. Hopefully they will return and bring friends with them. 1 Quote Link to post
