bird 9,861
What people view on the above? I've got one of each, old Bryn still got his, Buck had his removed. Now not saying Bryn. Had probs all the while, but he deff had couple rips on them. Had to rest him up till there healed, I did at one time tape them up when. Lamping him, to stop them getting ripped, was OK but, I said my next lurcher will have them off, so I did Buck had his off at 2 days old, never any leg probs, so I will do the same when I have another lurcher pup. But reading on a American vet report, they say to leave them on,? So what do you lot think on here? Quote Link to post

chartpolski 23,093
Interesting subject. I remember two well respected, old school lurcher men having diametrically opposed views on dew claws. Paul Sagar said the dew claw was attached to a tendon and removing the dew claw weakened the wrist. Typp Ratcher insisted the dew claws should be removed, and would penalise any dog he was judging if it had dew claws ! I've two old bitches in the kennel at the moment, one with dew claws, one without, and to be honest, I've never had any trouble with either of them. If I had to make a choice, I'd have them removed, but it wouldn't unduly worry me if they weren't . Cheers. 2 Quote Link to post

And they help them in rocks and scrambling over shit ... Got an old terrier bitch here without them...... Watched her struggle climbing over rubbish after the rats, couldn't get up as high as the others with them on neck..... 1 Quote Link to post
