Back up at the shoot

Well I never got my buck, only seen one doe, I suppose it was a little early not tending to see much emerging from the wood before last light, as I walked the bottom gutter towards the wood I glimpsed a flash of ginger along the bottom of the field, it was a fox no more than 40 yards walking towards me, as I seen it, it seen me, turned tail and ran, not even giving me enough time to mount the rifle Now I know different shooters like different types of shooting, but the ultimate over all other shooting for me is daylight fox shooting, especially on a warm bright  evening, I love it and can sit out for hours, never losing interest, a bit like when I was really into pike fishing, anyway I digress, I was gutted not to get the crosshairs on it, if I’d of got it I’d of been giddy for week

I'm the same nothing beats daylight foxing it's just a shame we dont have many. I suppose we appreciate it more when we do get one.

Both.

I've not seen the fallow yet but the roe doe reared two siblings last year and the buck is still about.

There are reports of muntjac nearby and so I'm ever hopeful. 

I did find two fallow bucks elsewhere.

Back up on the moor tonight for a couple of hours, I took the.17 for my mate and the .22 for me, we decided that we wouldn’t shoot anything really small and between 70 and 120 yards for the .22 and anything over 120 he’d have a go at with the .17, there was a few misses but both of us pulled off some cracking shots, we managed 41, so that’s well over 200 for 3 visits, not bad at all  

also seen the first curlew chicks and actually seen a cuckoo instead of just hearing them

Thursday I got a call from a mate of mine to ask if I could help a chap out that was losing chickens to a fox. I went to the same place last year for the same reason. I said the earliest I could go would be Saturday night, so we made arrangements for then. A mate of mine went with me and we set up the same as last time. I had a feeling it would be a vixen with cubs as it had been digging into the pens to gain access to the chickens. Anyhow at 10.13pm I spotted it coming into the field. It was using the available cover to make its way to the pens. I turned the foxpro on pheasant distress and it came flying in. A shout and a 120yd shot saw it crumple to the 55grn hollow point out of the 243. About 15 minutes later two heat sources could be seen around 160yds away to our rear and right hand side. These turned out to be a dog and a cub which my mate dispatched with his 204. We waited another couple of hours but there was no sign of anything else, so we called it a night and headed home.

thought that photo was my mates session yesterday till I saw the bullet hole.

my mate who foxs exclusively with a shotgun sent me this yesterday morning at 4.30 this is why I dont go out with him in the summer months... I like my bed!

location is a pig farm with a small shoot attached to the land.. the vixen and cub were down with one shot at about 25 yard, they were walking towards each other and pulled the trigger when they were nose to nose

the 3 cubs below were yesterday.. they must of been following but got broken up from the previous session above, me mate looked all over for more and turned a blank but went back yesterday on the off chance and they were living in an empty pheasant pen.. two barrels took the first two and the third came back fifteen mins later..
