Good lad, future of our sport. And good grandad Ian, makes a good day into a fantastic one sharing that with him.

Ps has a terrier pup been at his wellies??

No a pup hasn't done them.

My mate has a gun shop and last year i took him down to get him some wellies. It was at a time when stock was low but he said i have a pair of Chameau that are fur lined. Anyway when i went to fish the box out from the back of the shop they where a pair of "returns".  Which ,means for some reason someone had returned them and either had a replacement pair or refund. The wholesalers don't want wellies sending back to them but they want the logo cutting off the front and sending in instead. So as my mate hadn't got any in his size apart from these returns he said "if they are any use to you take them". Well that is what we did, and he stood in a bucket of water with them on and they don't leak. Why they where returned i don't know but he finished up with a pair of two hundred and odd pound wellies for "nowt".?

Well our first shoot of the year went well. It was cold but dry and a bit of sun appeared. Bag was 122 head comprising of 57 duck 56 pheasant 7 partridge and 2 pigeon. My own contribution wa

It’s been frosty the last couple of mornings, it’s very welcome , hopefully it will kill a few bugs . Unfortunately the Maize and cover crops don’t like it and they will soon be unviable as a drive .

Up to the shoot for first light this morning to feed and sort a few things out for tomorrow, it was absolutely freezing ? but still a lovely place to be, tomorrow is my day and the Christmas shoot, I have a couple of guests shooting so it’s down to me to look after everyone tomorrow, so for elevenses I’ve gone for leek and potato soup, corn beef and potato pie and bramble gin and Prosecco, fingers crossed everyone has a cracking day ?

Stav, you don't half put some effort in. A true gent you are ?

I know I'm generally a pisś taker, but I echo that sentiment - a very generous top man is stav.

Hope your cooking on the 15th!!

At the risk of sounding like a sanctimonious tw*t, I like to give people the opportunity to do something they wouldn’t normally get to do, a lot of people involved in all kinds of shooting don’t let anyone else in, I’ve been very lucky over the years with the land I’ve got and the people who have helped me, but it all started from one lad taking me out and trusting me not to go behind his back ?

Have a good day Stav , which guests are shooting tomorrow?

I’ve got my sheep farmer mate ( it’s his birthday shoot, so he gets to shoot all day ) and Robin Foxer ( of that YouTube) who’s been coming for the past half dozen years, it’s a bit of a treat for him because they have nothing like this down in Lincolnshire

Me and Bert out for a wander today in freezing fog .....put up a few pheasants but never managed a shot , kept getting gun tangled up in my shoulder due to wearing excess layers .Eventually checked out pond and a sole mallard lifted which I dropped ....little bit of water in pond now so will start feeding and hopefully get a couple of flights in January.

Day 4 ( my day and the Christmas shoot ) not the best day weather wise, with thick fog all day, the birds just didn’t know what was expected of them once they got above the trees, they were getting up and a fair few went back on themselves or sat in the tops of the trees once they reached the fog, we did the usual drives, first off was the “ tip drive “ and again some good birds came for the end of this drive, my guest Mosh took probably the 2 birds of the day from this one, next was “ Gordon’s pen “ and as expected the birds couldn’t deal with the fog but at least everyone got a few shots off. All back to the farm for elevenses, the animals destroyed the bramble gin and Prosecco, after that we headed for the piggeries “ tree side “, now my other guest Robin, hadn’t downed a bird yet, so with a bit of luck this would be the one and so it was, I put him out in the field and by the end of the drive he’d managed to down 4. Next would be the small drive opposite the house and once again Mosh and Robin both took a good bird each

lunch time

after lunch and with the fog getting thicker we made our way back to the piggeries, this time,” the thick side” there was a fair few that didn’t get shot at from this drive, purely because the guns couldn’t see them, still most of the guns did get some shooting. Off to “ forestry pen” not as many as on previous days but with the heavy fog making everything wet the birds are not as keen to be in there, we were to finish the day off with the back of the forestry buildings, a small number of birds flushed from this drive but the guns made the most of them, the final bird of the day been downed by one of the youngest guns, 13 year old jack ? the bag was about 45 birds and considering the weather the guns did very well, if the weather had been more favourable this could of easily been a 100 bird day
