Back up at the shoot

My favourite place was always somewhere I wasn’t meant to be, we had a big estate just up the road from me ( wynyard ) and we hammered it with the dogs, it had everything, deer, foxes, hares, rabbits and it was keepered by a group of nutters, so half the excitement was dodging them, sadly a lot of it is a up market housing estate now, not that I could be doing with running from the law anymore

For me, a bit of water ( stream, river, little splash, I’m not fussy) small wood/spiny with some thick hedge backs running to it ( animal highway) and a big chunk of ruff set aside, preferably with some bank side and some gorse bushes on it, 

if anyone knows where there’s such a place, let me know and I’ll come and have a look at it for you

Well I was out today on the drillings again , I was like a Minneapolis copper thinning out the blacks I didnt start off too well shooting a bit erratic but once I pulled myself together didnt do too bad. I was out for crop protection but there was a second good reason too as there was 7 lapwings and 4 curlew in the field I was shooting so a bit of a helping hand for them too. I picked 126 birds including a crow I found after I had packed up that a buzzard had feasted on. Lost a few birds so imagine must have shot around 140. Great day as birds decoyed text book style and I managed 10 right and left.

Had a walk around the shoot, headed over the far side towards the camp site ( Holly Bower ), not an animal to be seen, you can tell the site is back open, loads of feral people wandering around with their wild dogs, had one couple asking me what I was doing in an abrupt manner, after explaining to them that they are in the countryside and on a part of it they shouldn’t be on they scurried back to their tin box, giving it up as a bad job I headed back towards the farm for some .223 rabbit pest control, I had a half hearted call and to my surprise I had a badger run out of the wood straight at the caller and jumped on it, I’ve never had this happen before. I did see a lovely big fallow buck but sadly not on my land, with a bit of luck he’ll come over

Missed one last night Using 40gr Hornady for first time. Checked zero/poi with them Friday afternoon. 1st one way off, but then next 2 bang on. I just put 1st one down to a 'flyer or some fucķ up. But then 1st/only shot last night with 40gr and clear miss @ 130yds. Spent following hour beating myself up then buggered off home. 

Will target few more tomorrow. Could it just be my rifle favours the 32gr?

I was lamping one night and calling next to a dry stone wall . Next thing  I know there was a badger climbing the wall and we were literally nose to nose , dont know who got the biggest fright Strange what comes to the call , I've had otters and roebucks come in....

On the feeder this morning .

Had one come in the hide from the front which was interesting and yes it got away lol.Only a half grown same litter as two more I got I reckon .Saw them come out of a drey about 8 am as sun was getting up .Bloody cold wind this morning in that hide .

Hares always come in to hare distress, some of them will run right up to the caller

You’d think so but only moved the feeder 30 yards in a long strip wood .Still squigs calling as I came back through where I had the feeder last time .Rife mate I tell he ,rife .

Landowner said there were one or two about .First time ever it’s gone the other way .
