if you really think a free range chicken is a pound different in a super market you are of your rocker , you would need two for a roast because they are on the small side compared to good old battery chickens . so i can get 2 battery chickens for £6 in asda or 1 organic for £6 what do i do i wonder ??? . i smell middle class wankers with more money than sense . i bet mrs smith on the dole her old mans a piss head really gives a fcuk when she is trying to feed her 3 kids if the rare roast they have that weekend has had enough room to move ! all she gives a fcuk about is that it looks like and tastes like a chicken .

DONT BY ORGANIC BY FREE RANGE WHICH IS A POUND DEARER

AS FOR MIDDLE CLASS WANKER

my first ferret i got had practically buried into its own shit so it could get into its bed area i asked the guy why he kept it like this and he said why not it is just for bolting rabbits i would say 99% of people would call this creul me included so yes i bought it from him and took it home

the question is is it really necesary too putr the birds through all the ygo through so someone spends £1 more on it afterwards after all your body is only as good as you make it

im not into all this organic malarkey but a chiken with no room too move is not a natural happy chicken a blind piano playing chimp will tell you that so why keep them inside in a shed let them have a run about once in a while feel the wind in there feathers and enjoy there small worlds a bit more

I must say that I agree with you hole heartedly But I just hate the word BAN it would be nice to make life better for the "poxey" chicken There are a lot of things I would like see changed but who would listen to me

I just watched the last of the program and saw some fat bird buying battery farmed chicken after she reared free range chickens of her own, her excuse was she couldn't afford the free range chicken but she had two of the battery chicken's in her trolly, fat cow. I buy organic free range chicken's because they taste like wild birds not like this soft flaverless shite, and I eat the whole lot not leaving loads of meat on it just to give to the dogs. I am quite sure if people ate more vegetables and less food generally that most would be able to eat well and there wouldn't be so many fecking fat people, like nearly half the country. And there was this bloke in a pub saying that the average wage in Axminster was twelve grand that is why people eat battery farmed shite, all this was said whilst drinking a pint that probably cost him £2.50 about half the price of decent chicken and it is ok to eat baby animals as long as it had a decent life. Thank feck I got that of my chest, slag me if you must you ready meal eating feckers. By the way most the meat I eat is caught or reared myself.

Amen

lord b you come across as if you are trying to justify hunting , me i hunt because i like it not soely for meat . i like watching dogs hunt and kill . i love putting a ferret in the ground and listening to the sounds . people wanted hunting banned because they are narrow minded bigots same as people want battery farming stopped . i carnt see why you are trying to use hunting as some way to ban this type of farming ? . one mans poison is another mans... and all that . anyway i am of to eat my south american chicken burger very nice and it only cost £1 50 for a box of four from asda , i bet your gimpy mate couldnt match that ?

and to john b

i see what you are saying and were you are trying to go but imho you are looking at thinks in to simple a way and only in a ideal world . supermarkets are were the vast majority of people buy food from they fcuk british farmers over enough as it is ( milk a case in point ) they are about profit , you wouldnt be able to produce enough free range food in the uk to meet demands if batteary farming was banned . and to be honest i dont think the vast majority of people really give a fcuk .

Boris; I have no reason whatsoever to need to justify hunting of any kind, what I am doing however is raising the point that the whole thing is intertwined, and that the result of hunting and game management is a healthier, happier, unexpensive, natural produce - makes sence! And that it is points such as this we should be getting accross.

Yes people want hunting banned for the reasons you say, but lets show them what the produce of our sport is and how good it is, boils down to the same argument.

By buying this rubbish we are justifying the supermarkets monopoly, we survived perfectly well 20 years ago with butchers, grocers and the like, and much fewer supermarkets and we still had choice.

Farmers would much rather produce a clean healthy tastey food product and make a profit, than produce unhealthy cr*p and be squeezed by multinationals.

As hunters, farmers, field sports enthusiasts, country lovers we should be supporting this and not arguing against it. Surely by doing so you are disrespecting the very farmers, landowners and country lovers you on one hand profess to support and on who's land we enjoy our sports?

Nobody is suggesting you don't eat your Asda chicken burger, or never buy a KFC again but there is a trade off to be had, we needent let such a monopoly continue, likewise it neednt put an end to choice or afordable food, but surely the more we as country enthusiasts and field sports fans support healthy food/animal production and openly discuss the benefits of the game we enjoy as sport and food the more likely it is that peoples eyes will open, not only to the need for quality produce for the consumer, but also the producer (farmer) and maybe even the real fact about game being good!

We haven't always had these ludicrusly cheap chickens that the supermarkets pump out. We used to manage just fine with less money. It's just these days people can think of better things than food to spend their money on.
Dam right, its a throw away society with loads of waistfull people eating ready meals and cheap chicken  Edited by leegreen

True, shouldn't we be educating and encouraging the public to eat more game? Not only is it good, it’s cheap, it’s free range and it supports local farmers. Problem solved

This is true, it's all about educating and laziness. Most kids and adults ain't got a clue what they are eating, it's packaged and easy to cook with instructions on the pack cooking times etc. The farmers have been forced into this type of farming by supermarkets, government and the likes of defra and also from the decimation caused by mad cow, bse, foot and mouth and of coarse we have the avian flu and also the flooding and don't forget all these things hit them one after another and they have never recovered . With the population boom and lots of single parents in this country of coarse they are gonna buy two chickens for a fiver rather than pay more for one chicken it's about feeding mass hungry mouths, regardless of taste it fills a hole, i don't agree with it but thats life, it's a catch 22 situation. Over the last thirty years we have seen the demise of the corner shop and butchers and now we are gonna see the same with the farming industry within the next thirty odd years or so, just wait and see, if not sooner. There is no way any one can compete with these large superstores, it's not just what we eat it's also the electrical, clothing and so on it's everything, and the only person competing with them is the other large superstores. If you look at life today its a hell of a lot faster than say fifty years ago, it's sleep, wake, work, more work and in the meantime you have to get a meal or two in there somewhere so people do all the shopping in one store, hence the rise of kfc,big macs and so on, i just wonder how many families sit around a table for a sunday roast or any day of the week come to think of it, i bet you would be quite shocked at the figures. When the farming community does eventually crumble to nothing, which it will with mass importing of foods and other goods, the next planned move from the government will be to buy their land cheap, overturn the green belt situation and then mass building for this ever growing country of immigrants, single parents and don't forget all the cons that are released early, they have rights too, it's a conspiracy. Well thats my gripe and moan for January i think......happy new year by the way :D

I agree with you craftycarper, but surly this is about leading by example? Yes I agree that single parent, on very low income's are going to buy cheap meat, (Currently many single parent live well below the poverty line in this country alone) and why wouldn’t they? If people who can afford to buy British free range meat, and support our local Farmer's, choose not too, then why should the poorest people in society, support the cause???

Quite rightly, you point out that much of the problem stems from laziness, and I agree. Not only have people become self absorbed, but many people just don't care about the crisis Farmers face, just like they don't care how are soldier's are treated, our nurses and doctor's and those living in poverty.

The country has become so materialistic, that everyone wants the smarted car's, the nicest houses, the best clothing and in order to finance this greed, they make cutback's else where, including the food they eat. They don't care what their greed has done to the Farming community anymore than they care that their need for cheap good's has ended manufacturing in this country, Leaving Many unemployed and in some cases unemployable.

How many miners's ended up unemployed, when it was suddenly decided we could get our coal cheaper elsewhere, how many dock workers ended up the same way? Production line worker's became the new victim's, when we allowed companies such as Phone companies, car companies and bank call centre's to shift their business's aboard for cheaper labour?

How many items of clothes do you have, that's been made in Britain? Everyone involved in theses trades have ended up as the victim's of a highly competitive labour market, because we demand cheap products, and cheap products that in some cases are dangerous IE toys made in china.

If people in this country don't start standing together and supporting British farmers, farming in this country will be wiped out, along with many of our country sports.

If there's no land left to shoot on, because it's become another retail park, then you'll be best off buying a water gun, and shooting next doors cat, that's the only shooting sport we will have left.

Avian flu obviously affects birds in Britain, but don't forget, it originated in Asia, It came to Britain due to importing theses Birds for the British market ( cheap products everyone wants) British farmers became the victims of cross contamination.
