pesky1972 5,325
Watched two crows chase and kill a young starling yesterday. Rooftops round me there’s plenty crows, magpies and gulls on the look out for fledglings. It’s just nature’s way..., still it’d be nice to see them, especially the magpies, thinned out a bit. Number of magpies round here, like the woodies too, are nearly at plague proportions. High time we started giving kids back their air rifles. Atb j As you know mate, there are more crows here than anything else, that can’t be good for the local wild bird population.

Definitely not, I agree with you. Their needs to be a cull for the sake of other wildlife Atb j
Nicepix 5,650
The shoot I used to be on neighboured a large country park. About ten years ago there was some sort of study carried out for the Countryside Stewardship scheme. They found a greater diversity of wildlife on our shoot than in the country park. Trapping and shooting vermin works better for nature as a whole.

Bloke near me was in charge of a project to save some protected bird or something, the local NPWS (National parks and wildlife service) had been trying and failing badly for 3 years. He brought in 6 keepers from England and left them to it and they had it sorted with massive success in 12 months !! Edited May 9, 2020 by WILF
