Foxes were the plan

There are rifles other than savage. I've seen no evidence it's any less effective than .22 Hornet in killing. In fact it retains more energy than .22 hornet at longer range. On the other side of the pond, it's regarded very highly and they even shoot 40lbs+ Coyotes with it, although some do run a short distance so I would't regard it humane or sutiable for such large prey.

Up at the sheep farm although 90% of the lambs are a good way on now there is still a troublesome fox about bothering stock around the the farm. The farm hand has been baiting a hedge back in a small

That should be lesson learnt about mouse guns. Taking one for foxes is like turning up at a gunfight with a knife.  Stupid boy!?

Less your lip?Don't forget I could still give you a boot up the arse a feild apart?

How many foxes have you shot with a .17 hornet or a .22 hornet?

Ive found the Remington Accutip and Hornady v-max in .22 hornet work well enough out to 150 (from 18” barrel)and a bit more if necessary. Both 35 grain. I could use something flatter with a bit more range sometimes. I quite fancy a .204 but don’t want anything that needs a long barrel, don’t know if a .204 does or not? Those fast and frangible lightweight bullets have some appeal to me.

Both my .204s have 20" barrels and run 32grn bullets at circa 4,200fps, fast enough for ya?

PO Ackley always used to swear by velocity and when you look at the results from .204, it's certainly one of the most destructive calibres. As for velocity, personally I tend towards the 40gr V Max for barrel life reasons. 3,880fps is still going some.

That's when you switch to the 24gr if you can still get them - 4,400 fps !!! 32 gr's a slow coach!

Also, be interesting to see if SIg's new high pressure hybdrid ammo (80,000 psi) becomes more available to the public instead of just military. (Steel and brass hybrid case to withstand the higher pressures. It seems one new civilian calibre is already on the way:
