Bosun11 537
No hard rules for me Ray, just guidlines... First off, i'll always prefer a bitch but my last lurcher was a dog... Then the cross would always depend on what i would like it to catch. No point running quarry just to excercise it. I've never been kennel blind and every cross and type is of interest to me, its just a case of matching type to quarry. Brought on right, every lurcher will catch sommat and there are plenty of accidents and rescues that are serious at their game but if i'm gonna start from scratch with a puppy, then i want something out of well worked parents and a bit of bloodline... If i'm choosing a pup from a litter, then (and its the best advice i can give) if the litter is of the type you've done your homework on, then simply go for the pup that first catches your eye, pick it up, pay and leave... Don't overthink, that should have been done weeks before. Get your new partner home and put 100% into it for the rest of its life. Because that is what is required. Oh yer, all puppys are fanny magnets, so get it jabbed quick and make sure your early walks go past school gates, five minutes before they let the kids out. Mobbed by mums, they'll keep you there till the kids get out and then you got some serious puppy socialisation.... Just be careful it don't get patted to death. Quote Link to post

Lamper121 239
Used to only have bitches but took on a mature dog about 3 years ago and now i would definitely have a dog for the next one. Have to be smooth coat, over 26tts and no more than 30kg running weight. Love racy bull crosses, just think a splash of bull gives the sort of temperament I want which is soft as shit and fussy when you are in the house but a machine when out hunting. 1 Quote Link to post

two crows 3,342
I always like bitches, temp goes without saying, it has to be honest, well put together so as to stay sound, biddable to an extent, ( I don't ask much ) and I like affection gained from a proper bond, now picking a pup to give you that, this is where the trouble starts, so parents doing the job you want, and a depth of beading in the line, I have seen one or two good dogs that don't produce because they lack breading imo, so with coursing dogs that means the lines with names attached, as these are the old lines that produce the goods time and time again, just how I see it.
