Dniepr/ Ural motorcycle.

Recommended Posts

As title says, does anyone have one of these bikes, of either model.

I wanting one for a few years now, might get one when things lighten up, with this pandemic and restrictions.

Would be nice to get a bit of feed back from owners.

i had a old dnepr 650 with 2 wheel drive, loved it wife hated it as the chair was on the off side.

cant find any photos now. but it was all grey like the german army ones 2ww.

parts easy to get from russia etc.... was going to get a 750 bmw engine fitted...

but a hardtail chop took my fancy so sold it.....

if you go for one get the older version , the 2 wheel drive ones will go anywhere.

it's like every thing with a engine!!! look after it and fix it right then it;s there to enjoy.

there is so much you can do to them to improve the running etc. early ones are 6 volt

so that's the first change to 12 volt. etc there is a good forum for them as well.

i will try and find it.......

Had to look up what that was Chris j.

Couldn't find any for sale over here. Looks like a mad thing to have a lot of fun on.

They are!

They're not particularly quick but they'll go pretty much anywhere. I've been looking for a second hand one but they don't come up very often as people like to hang on to them. They've been on the market since the late 70's early 80's I believe and even the used ones fetch a premium.

did they used to be called cossack or is that something else ?

Yes they were.

I was planning on picking up a ural/deinper  as a rebuild project, but swapping out the engine for a more reliable bmw one.

Well that was the plan

Did they make a desiel version of these, or am o thinking of one like it

My favourite bike to own would be a Kawasaki ltd 750. I really like the look of them.

I don't think they do as standard. Not over here anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a conversion for them, though.

i had jawa and cz both crap lad on same road had the ural -- chopper type thing  he folded it in half on a bus shelter ...

Had a CZ175 myself and what a parcel that thing was. Lol. But had some crack on it, mates had CG 125s and CD 175s and it was always a racing match round the back roads. Got myself a GT 380 triple after that soon put the laughing outta them. Lol.

400 four was a nice bike to ride. ?. First bike I was legally on the road with at 18 was DT 125 had a few different bikes after that, DR 350 with a big bore kit was a good tool, DR 400E. couple of bandits and the last was a FZ1. Really miss not having a bike at the minute but I'll get another when the time is right.
