An AVO logbook means it was made in fords advanced vehicle operations plant and not just another Dagenham dustbin, all early rs and Mexico’s should have a special logbook to show this otherwise it’s just another 2 door ford made to look like one and not worth a fraction of a real one, it’s also running a 2 litre pinto and it should have a 16 pushrod motor in it, originality in classics is were the money is, matching numbers low miles and service history is what you want ?

The AVO plant closed in 1975 .. so like I say that's to new to have one seen as it's a 78 car.. ?

And the MK2 Mexico had a 1.6 pinto 8 engine ?

Absolutely right people are looking to get them back as standard as possible not soup them up for boy racer material.....i used to know all the different works escorts but ive forgotten it all over the years wasnt the Mk 2 Mexico a flat front version of the Rs2000 or was the mk 1 and 2 Mexicos both 1600 ?

Great days they were f****n about with them old Fords....back in the days when anyone had half a chance under a bonnet !

I know f**k all about motors bit my mate swapped the engine in a fiesta mk2 for a mondeo engine  in think  it was and done loads of stuff to it.  Think it was just a tad over 210bhp dont know if it's good but back then it felt like a rocket sure he said he only spent about 2500 all in. Looked like a heap of shite and gave a friend a shot ended up blowing the engine.

Problem is the fiestas being fwd looses too much power and eats tyres through wheel spin never mind torque steer that makes ya think your going through hedges when the power comes on, rwd or awd are best and more fun in the turbo cars

Not necessarily, torque steer is down to unequal drive shaft length in most cases an lsd normally would cut most of it out

That's why it was common to try and get an escort rs turbo gearbox for the fiesta rs turbo

In 2008 I was offered a uk mk4 supra twin turbo manual for £6000, a r32 gtr for £6500, Toyota celica gt4 st205 and a Sierra sapphire cosworth for £3000 and because I couldn’t get insured I turned them down and got a Land Rover, to say I’m kicking myself is an understatement.

I’d deffo go Subaru. We used to put both these cars through there paces week in week out and for me the Subaru a much better drive and handling and like others say a lot less will go wrong with the Subaru as long as it’s not a nacker from the start although if it was to take on a track I’d go evo as you would have more fun. My mates got a lotus Colton which he brought 20 years ago it’s now worth 80-100 grand. Think he payed around the 10 grand mark for it
