The glorious 16th

Recommended Posts

Fingers crossed this lockdown ends and we can get back out on the bank?should of been our busiest times out of season, bank work, tarting up swims and prebaiting...... Only so much tidying up and sorting out old and new kit ?managed to grab some good bait and tackle deals from a place local that's still open?(does alot of cage and aviary birds, frozen raw, horse, chicken feeds?

I'm hoping to be fishing by the middle of next month dependent on the restrictions being lifted. It will be the spawning season for carp and barbel so I'll target roach and tench on a local lake to start with then go onto the rivers towards the end of the month. River carp and a French double figure barbel are on the cards. I've had a lot of carp out of the river whilst barbel fishing so towards the end of last year I switched tactics and went for the carp as they run much bigger than the barbel. I'll also have a rod out for catfish.

Last summer I bought a small boat complete with trailer and added an electric motor, battery & echo-sounder. Only got to use it once before I got struck ill and by the time I had recovered the floods set in. Now I can't use it because of the lock down so its been untouched other than battery charging in the basement garage for almost 8 months. That is going to get some use this year  I can tell you!

To be honest it is pretty much the same as the UK. The main difference is that mostly fishing in rivers and large lakes is free once you have bought your €95 annual rod licence and you can use small boats without restrictions in most public places.

Many rivers are full of carp which isn't always a good thing and you will struggle to catch a barbel over around 8lb except in a very few locations. It won't be long before they are pulling out 100lb catfish from the Severn, Thames and Trent the way things are going and I would hazard a guess that the Gt. Ouse system will soon be discovered as a big carp and catfish venue.

The main difference for me is that I am now not doing a forty hour week on nights, afters and day shifts. ?

Was reading that fishing should be one of the first to get green light after lockdown, both my son and I have our tickets through for a local club with half dozen lakes and a nice stretch of river which interests me. My boy wants to catch a 50lb tadpole from one of the lakes I f**king hate catfish myself. Lol
