A keeper I know sent me this picture of a fox his new beat keeper shot on Monday. The leg looks too neat to have healed naturally. In fact I’ve shot foxes with legs missing before and the bone is visible (like a chicken ?) .
He thinks it a fox that’s been released by some well meaning but misguided charity . What do you think ?

I used to lamp fox with a guy local and he shot 1 that had a back leg stitched. Somebody kept releasing them so he went back to them fields if it looked like he might blank. Always seemed to be something about there for him.

I know a bloke who runs a shoot on a large expanse of agricultural land and he spotted a big white van parked up near a wood one night just before dark. He set off to try to get to it before they left but didn't manage to. He had suspicions of someone dumping foxes for a while so he went home and got his lamp and rifle. He finished up shooting eleven in less than an hour.

The shoot where that fox was shot has a busy A road next to it and there is a lay-by and a little bit of a pull in tucked away alongside. The same thing happened there,  a white van was spotted in there and it pulled off before they could get the reg number. When the keeper got there ,  there was a fox sprawled out warming it’s belly on the tarmac . They shot a lot of foxes over the next couple of nights. This has happened a few times . I hope they read these posts and realise what an exercise in futility releasing urban foxes in the countryside is . It’s actually cruel .

How I understand the law, it's illegal.

But hey what do I know, I've been accused of breaking the law but no one could show me any written law....go figure.

There is no law against releasing foxes. It never works out well for them though.
