Dan Newcombe 58
Got a really stupid problem that I was hoping someone might be able to help with. Have 3 Hobbs at the moment, 2 of which have always been together and one lives alone since his pal died at the start of the year. Like a total berk, I left the hutch open for the pair and one hobb went missing for about 48 hours. When we got him back (neighbour found him) I stuck him back with his mate and they started fighting pretty badly. We took the wanderer out and out him separate for the big but with plenty food and water to recover. Tried them back together in a stable, plenty of space this lunch time and they ended up fighting again, pretty badly. Ended up with the wanderer getting pines by the neck and I pulled them apart. Question is - is there any chance that we might be able to house them as a pair again. Will be a pain if we can’t because that would be 3 ferrets in 3 hutches and id not fancy putting them down the same warren. Any help / thoughts welcome good or bad. thanks Dan Quote Link to post
neil b 2,355
At this time of year they will be in season, imo I would keep them separated until the winter time then try them together again once their hormones return to normal, but that’s just my opinion. 1 Quote Link to post
Dan Newcombe 58
Thought that might be the case at this time of year, encouraging if they might go back together at some point though, thanks Quote Link to post
neil b 2,355
Another option is get them castrated, they should all live happily ever after then Quote Link to post
Dan Newcombe 58
I’ve always steered clear of that biased on the assumption that it would be quite expensive to get each one done (purely based on costs for dogs) what sort of money is castrating? (Apologies, very lazy) cheers Quote Link to post
neil b 2,355
Not a clue, every vet will charge differently, you’d have to ring yours up and ask how much they charge Quote Link to post
Bobtheferret 1,252
Your lucky if you can ever keep entire hobs together during spring/summer time, I have kept ferrets for 30 years and always have to separate my hobs or they pull chunks off each other. You will either need to keep them separate or castrate them as Neil says above. 1 Quote Link to post
