Last year's baby moorhens... Last week we had a mallard and 9 chicks on there but she disappeared and hasn't come back. Brilliant job, fair play, the hard work payed off. If I put something like that in here, id have every seagull from here to Canada moved in, I wouldn't even be able to keep a great white in a pond here Atb j

But living on the west coast of Ireland, once it starts, if forgets to stop LOL Is it fish you keep in the pond ? Atb j My old area has had 4 hours rain in about 8 weeks until today......so moving to Ireland was a big change ! Lol

All in to dig it out, get rid of all muck and level top soil back out cost £1900 but that was because I get decent rates of a local farmer for man/machine and we managed to sell the clay at £2.20 a tonne which offset the majority of the haulage costs. Think about 880tonnes came out so would've probably been about 4kish. We are low on water table and on clay so I haven't had to line it or anything. It filled up naturally but level fluctuates. I have been told that over the years as silt etc builds up the fluctuation will get less and less, it was described to me as a clean sponge that allows water to pass freely but as the holes fill up with muck water can still pass but not as fast. Don't know if that is right or not! It's my little paradise. Personally Id rather be sat at side of my pond than on a beach somewhere!

That just eased the bill.

Just brought it to front Only been 3yrs, amazing how much wildlife is in there now. That is just the stuff I see, what about all the bloodworm, dragon fly lavea and nymphs, the bugs and birds that I don't spot, the animals that I dont doubt come at night for a drink etc. I've just remembered last year we had a wood pigeon that used to visit twice a day for a bath and used to jump in and swim about, sure it thought it was a f***ing duck! All others used to stop eating and drinking on side looking at this thing flapping around in water like 'what the f**k is Dave doing'

It was used for capping a land fill site. The topsoil was separated and re-spread back around once we were done.
