Greyman 28,844
On my local lock down exercise walk this morning along the foreshore and realised that as a kid to get to the other side of the river involved waiting for the tide to be up and a penny to the ferryman who would take you across, the river is the county line and back in the day the pubs on the other side stayed open longer than on this side, so if you missed the ferry back it often involved a drunken swim back across the river, today it is a 10 minute drive on the motorway the little green shed used to have a turnstile inside that you put your penny in before boarding the ferry which was just an open boat pulled across on a rope 17
pesky1972 5,325
I could hear the old ‘Hovis’ music in my head as I read that Watched a few of old Fred Dibnah’s videos (again) last night, made me nostalgic for those ‘simpler’ times. Wonder what the kids of today will look back one day and lament the loss of.

Nesting, hedge hopping, camping, proper camping with just a tent and a couple of very basic bits of gear, are all alien things to them.

My stamping ground is the Quantocks and the river Parrett and the coastline from Brean down round to Kilve. Funny enough I was on the quantocks just before lockdown, what a lovely part of the world that is and very overlooked because of the more famous hills and moors around it, the view from the bridge is probably better than the reality of walking it but I can’t drive to my normal walking spots so I just got to make do with what’s on my doorstep,

Fould old sneed park nature reserve a few weeks before the lockdown another cracking little place within walking distance. Not a lot has changed for me key worker so still going in and the wife works in a supermarket. Obviously fishing and shootings been put on hold but its given me a chance to catch up on a bit around the house. You and yours take care mate and have to catch up when this shite dies down
