Another thing I’ve started doing is feeding on straw under the cover of the trees, a keeper told me to do this because the fallow don’t tend to rake through it for a few grains of corn and it keeps the birds occupied, I’ve not been doing this keeping lark for very long but I’ve learnt a hell of a lot from all kinds of people involved with it

I scatter any loose bales in our woodland rides just as something to catch eye & hopefully hold the few wild birds we have kicking about, seems to work.

It’s nice to have a place where you can put a bit straw down or a bit of corn and draw in a few wild birds ( or someone else’s ?) and have a little walked up shoot, I’ve got a couple of places where I can have a walk around in the season and get a free go at duck, partridge and pheasant ?

We used to have a load of multi coloured on the sheep farm, my mate mosh dropped half a dozen domestic in the yard and they did what rabbits do best, this was a good few years ago now but you still get the black one now and then and about a year ago I shot one that was half brown half black, as if someone had stuck two half’s together
