There’s shoots , factored estates ( that’s the word we used where I’m from of a load of small farms under one umbrella) boat builders , endless amounts of small independent shops on the estate I live in , there is dozens of teenagers sat playing music and kerby on the road . Not a summer job or weekend between them. My mam just wouldn’t have stood for that . I couldn’t have not went to chase a quid , even if it had been scrubbing boats or painting fences. True , but I didn’t sit shiftless of a weekend evening as a teen , I was up town ratching at 16 trying to get into boozers and clubs in the clothes Id paid for with the coin Id earned that day doing whatever I could ! Was just saying that there are jobs for days out there for kids , whether it’s a few Shifts fencing or brushing hair up in a salon , there’s work

I was the same......I worked every summer holiday all summer from the age of 12, but a lot of my mates didn’t. Something changes with each generation for sure, some good, some bad. Parents make a big difference. My brother & sister always had holiday/part time jobs, but some parents just don’t encourage it for whatever reason. Sounds like a nice place you’re in anyway

As opposed to itinerant fruit pickers who do it every season .....

We had f**k all the old man wasted most of his money on the Horses and getting pissed. I took on two paper rounds and worked on a market garden so I could buy Levi jeans and smart shirts etc. The old b*****d that had the market garden was a tight old f****r ten pence half penny an hour old money for hoeing a field of cabbage all day or tying beetroot into threes for market. I would hand over some of that to my mother to help out. Was in the pubs at 16 as well, in fact the publican asked once how many more 18th birthdays are you going to have. Lol.
