john b 38
I made three bottles of sloe gin this year and one i decided to do a project with,, I shaked it right up straight away untill it was sloe gin coular already,, Wanted to compare the taste between the two,, Both the bottles tase lovely and the shaked up one is like some horrible cough missup and it is binned  LL can I just say that is about the most constructive and inteligent contribution of yours I can ever remember reading. An experiment conducted in the scientific method with a clear purpose, with proper 'control' bottles made from the same crop but in the traditional way. And the whole thing articulated in English. Anyway back to the point - I always leave mine on the fruit for 12 to 14 months, then bottle it off and store for another year if I can.
jgc410 0
Ive still got a load of blackberries in the freezer and im intrested in producing some blackberrie whisky,, Would it be best to do it the same as sloe gin ? What methods do you lot use to make it? This maybe a little late, but this is my way and its always popular, 4lb blackberries,100g raw cane sugar and 1 litre of cheap whiskey.Put everything into a demi john, fit bung and shake until sugar dissolved, then leave in a cool dark place for at least 3 months shaking once a week.Strain, bottle and enjoy. ps.hide a little bottle away yourself as i find it dissapears otherwise. What methods do you lot use to make it? I found this forum whilst searching the net for a bramble whisky recipe - I made it for the first time last year and cant remember how I made it - I think I followed my sloe gin recipe and just substituted!. However, I just thought I would let anyone interested in making it, seeing as brambles are now prolific in the hedgerows, that once you get the brambles, whisky and sugar into a bottle, it should not be left more than 8 weeks MAX before straining and bottling. Apparently it goes very 'woody' if you leave it. This is perfect timing for giving it as gifts and having it ready for christmas. I have since found a recipe and it is really very simple - 1 bottle whisky, 1lb fruit and half pound of sugar!. It is well worth making and (I think) heaps better than sloe gin, it doesn't have any edge and is very very fruity.
