So what's so bad about the British tradition of a picnic.

Feck me am I allowed to eat my sandwich while leaning on your 5 bar gate.

Or is that frowned upon aswell.

You can eat your sandwhich leaning in a gate, sitting on my field or even a log ......

Last picnic this week consisted of - family opens gate between field of sheep and woods so their kids can play in woods while they bbq / picnic in field ..... letting 200 in lamb ewes out of field into woods........

Then proceeded to light bbqs in dry grass and scortch it, then f**k off leaving their litter.

So Yer like both hunter said ..... I’m just a selfish c**t.

Right, because I don't want to argue and I accept I'm less than perfect. I stand by what I said but equally perhaps it was a little personal the way I put it. I apolgise for that. It was the truth but saying it like that was only going to provoke conflict in hindsight.

I don't have any time for being told I shouldn't be allowed to use the countryside within my rights. I understand many people abuse these rights and it makes rural work unnecessarily difficult and costly. I have and still do see this from both sides of the fence.

Sheep chaser how do you normally deal with the public or there dogs do you advise them ect and what do you do to combat it during those days you mentioned out of interest

We put signs up, send out stuff on local social media. If I’m honest on those particular days I just drive around picking up dead sheep and putting others down. We never catch anyone and no one ever owns up, they just leave the sheep where they are. Worst one we had was lambing a few years ago, someone’s dog got into a lambing field and massacared the baby lambs, didn’t touch a ewe, owner grabbed the dog and f****d off, I just found it when I went to check them.

Its a big problem and it’s continuously growing. One of the big issues is the attitude displayed by born hunter above - f**k you, I have a right to be here, the countryside is just as much mine as yours etc. Which I understand to a point, but the footpath system wasn’t designed to allow people to run riot, it had practical reasoning, and was done in a time where folk were more in touch with the country.

We get all sorts, lots of stuff nicked, gates opened, bale stacks and barns torched, stock killed, fences cut to allow dogs through etc etc.

And the minut you complain it try to stop anyone it’s always the same “f**k you, I’ve a right to do what I like, and I’m f***ing doing it” and as BH said, we don’t care if you exist it not because we will just import food and that will be better as the countryside will be like a big park ....

Which is obviously a fantastic attitude to be greeted with while someone is wandering round doing as they like on your privately owned land and place of work .....

I didn't call you a c**t. I said you're being selfish.

And you are, making out that being confined to the walls of ours homes is like having a day off work. I'd kill to be working on a farm 7 days a week right now rather than 8 hours behind a screen followed by the rest of the day in bed or in front of the TV. Getting to walk the footpaths of the countryside is the only thing keeping me and many other sane.

This ain't much fun for anyone fella.

That post was bang on mate and I also agree I was probably being needlessly confrontational.

The issue we have currently Is that there are lots and lots of folk say about bored and someone has just said they can all go for a wander in the country ...... what’s chances they will look into how not to be a right pain in the arse before they do so?

No...... and I don’t have an issue witj regular country goers..... it’s the encouraging of the masses to descend upon the countryside right now to halt their boredom.

I accept its good to walk the countryside but would it not make sense to be able to open and shut certain routes.

Last year I had two footpaths through the middle of my lambing fields - there is miles of countryside around here but still folk insisted on running their dogs and taking their family straight through hundreds and hundreds of sheep lambing outside. I ended up with dozens of abandoned lambs.

And what about now if you are an elderly couple and a footpath runs straight though your yard, do you want lots and lots of folk in your yard, touching your gates eyx.

The countryside is an asset for everyone, but for some of us it’s a practical workplace as well as a place to unwind and relax.

Again, I'm sorry for being so f***ing blunt. I'm sure if we were face to face we'd totally understand and agree with each other. You come across a bit cantankerous and blunt at times (to me at least) but you also come across as generally a sound sort. Like the majority of rural workers tbh, so I should've been more intelligent in that regard. That's me being plainly honest but hopefully respectful with you.

Yes, totally understand. It annoys the f**k out of me not being able to get my hour or two of, frankly meditation, in my daily walk without constantly bumping into folks who before all this never stepped foot in the countryside. Drives me nuts and it's not costing me money like it will you.

I hope we have this behind us the best we can? :victory:

Reason I asked I go on a farm that has had a few attacks over the years and the farmer goes out and talks to those he sees with dogs running sheep or near them but he's a laid back sort but after the last attack he's had enough he's going to shoot them now because signs ect just don't work so he said maybe word of mouth will but he's never had has many folk on even been threatened by a middle aged couple with kids

The walking through lambing fields is a bad do I will agree with that.

And subtly encouraging people not to do it is probably the way forward.

Half a foot of slurry by the gate maybe the way to go for vulnerable fields.

To keep the idiots out.

Yer I’d say that sums me up pretty well. If I’m honest I just don’t like people much to ?

And yes no worries mate, water under the bridge.
