has anyone got any infomation on this a friend wants to put my dog back to his bitch that i gave him both dogs work really well and would produce good workers but i was worried about any complications that may occur. it would be a whippet to bedlington whippet

Wouldnt say this is an ideal mating. Although neither dog has any faults if you breed them to each other the pups could carry bad traits that are over magnified .Theres a lot been written about it here and there,theres nothing really wrong with it if youre trying to start a certain good strain of dog.

Quite a few have done it, although dont fancy such close line breeding myself.Pups would be fine.

....theres also a reason yours or my mrs never gave birth to 9 kids in one sitting ....physically theres nothing wrong with a breeding like this especially when you are breeding from crossed dogs anyway......if you are trying to breed a strain then you are tightening up genetically on good AND bad traits making it vital to be very slective in future breedings you do....but if you just want to do a breeding to produce one off workers its probably not the best way of breeding.

One of the best matings imo is father daughter,mother son if you want to tighten your line as long as there not close bred in the first place.

Worst close matings is brother sister matings seen some bad pups from such linings.

What you wan't to do is called line breeding.You can breed father togranddaughter and you can breed half bro and sis.If you breed father to daughter it could wind up very bad.All the good things are magnified but so is the bad so only do this if you have really good dogs.If they have any health or flaws it will triple.

theres no such thing as breeding to close in the animal kingdom the word inbred is a human made up thing to do with polotics look at our native animals the badger for example they breed very close without barly any wastage but one thing that i will say make sure the dogs are upto scratch before mating this close cause like said previously all traights get magnified not just the good please dont breed for convienience breed for workers and you are half way there

The best way to breed if both dogs are fit specimens and so were the parients.Kill anything faulty.
