Is anybody using cci segmented ammo?

Been testing different ammo in my new CZ 457 royal , good news it will shoot great with Winchester 40 and 42 gr , Eleys Federal , but what was surprising the cci segmented came in the best with nearly every one on top of each other @ 50 yards and 75 yards plus not far of at 100 yards either. They definitely split into three when they hit the target , that’s for sure 

Read so much bad findings on cci segmented ammo , but glad I tried them for myself, just shows don’t always believe what you read and that goes with CZ royal as well . This gun is fantastic in every way and even the trigger is not that bad either 

my mate  at the same time had a brand new Anschutz 1416 and me with the CZ royal and 1416 has gone back for repair because his is shooting  crap ,that’s putting it politely  . He has shot mine and is gutted , he just can’t believe how accurate it is and £200 cheaper than 1416

Good to know Mitch, must admit I have not tried them after throwing out Winchester ammo, found the most accurate was RWS followed by Eley, perhaps I need to look out for the Segmented ammo and give them a whirl. Glad you like the 457 Royal

Ive tried the cci segmented in a couple of rifles, they certainly hit hard and do the job when they hit the mark, but accuracy was left wanting in the rifles that I used them in. If they suit your barrel, that’s great, I’d probably use them a lot if I got better accuracy from them. The 45 grain cci suppressor however, I’ve found to be very effective.

Used them for fox and bunnies very hard hitting ,and not too expensive ,mines a cz452 mk2 americain .But again dont believe all cz,s like them from coversations with others on the shoot

Did you find they splintered into three segments ?

I shot one at a 45 gallon drum to test them, and it made a usual.22 hole on entry and three dents on the other side. I don’t know about live quarry though?

I am using RWS subs in the .22lr which I have been very pleased with as they are so accurate in each rifle we have tried, Browning T-Bolt, Annie 1416, CZ 452 and Tikka Tx1. My pal and myself are using the Hornady V-Max 30 in the WMR which has so far shown to be very accurate and flies as flat as a pancake although it is very early days with testing because of the winds we have been experiencing but on point from 50 - 90mts, zero at 80mt but we were having to catch pockets of low levels of wind in order to get some tests done. I intend to rezero at 100mt and then take out to 115mt (the max distance for our little range in the quarry) and come right back to 40mt to better examine trajectory.

My initial thoughts are that trajectory will go downhill if using the 46gr CCI Segmented compared to the Hornady 30gr ammo however if the effect of the CCI on quarry such as foxes is greater than the Hornady, it will be worth the change providing accuracy is maintained. 

Off to the RFD today to try and get some for testing.

Of all the wmr I have shot over the years they all seem to perform the same on Charlie except one!

CCI, S&B, Federal 50g, PMC, Remington and Winchester all behave the same.

The Federal 30g SPEER TNT are the best on Charlie.

Forget bang flops with WMR but with that Speer TNT hollow point it comes close. ( You do get some bang flops occasionally, just not always but they don't go far).

Forest Lodge Guns are advertising that they’ve got ten different types of .22 magnum ammo in stock, so you should have a good chance of finding some there Phil?  I believe that you use the shop anyway? Since my in-laws sold their caravan at mablethorpe I haven’t been in. I used to look forward to calling in there on my way to and from visiting them.

Yes he is one of my regular suppliers, I will be calling Matt tomorrow and as it is going to be raining, I may drive over there if they have some of the Federal in stock. As far as I know, they have 4 types of wmr ammo unless something has changed in the past few weeks.
