ferretville 69
Used the small brass minnow`s worked well, but use the real mcoy bobbing the minnow now that is lethal. Caught more brownie`s this way than any other method of fishing atb FV. Quote Link to post

auld salmon 28
i agree but dont think theres a better feeling than catching a decent fish on fly,id rather fish all day with fly and only catch 1 than all day with spinner and catch 10. thats the way for me too well done more of a challence than firing the metalwork all day Quote Link to post

Guest Eamon.Mc
What type of river you fishing? Here in Ireland where I presume you're from we have different types of water, where I am in the north our rivers are peat stained and the water has a reddish brown hue til it, in the upper reaches of the rivers the water is much clearer though. It depends on the type of water or particular beat you are fishing which method suits best. On slower deep water I prefer to spin, I've caught trout on every type of spinner, devon, mepps, plugs, flying c's. On more streamy water I find the fly more productive simply because the fish has to make a quick decision whether or not to take the fly as it goes by whereas on slower water it has more time to look at the fly and will refuse to take, but with spinning you are counting on the trouts instinct to chase and take. Fishing fly patterns that mimic real flies will be more productive than lure type flies and water conditions and time of year will dictate what flies and methods to use. Quote Link to post
sam-jones69 0
in the river up by me the salmon that jump past me, wont take the flies only the trout will, but these guys who were spinning had a couple and when i put a spinner on the bayliff guy had a right strop lol Quote Link to post
