Recommended Posts

i use spinners because i can't fly fish but always had good results but no big'uns like you see caut with the fly's

At the back end of October I had one fish 3 3/4 lb, cock brown fish paired with a female, caught it on a spinner. It was released to spawn, did'nt get a photo. Must do in future so I can post here for other members to see.

i agree but dont think theres a better feeling than catching a decent fish on fly,id rather fish all day with fly and only catch 1 than all day with spinner and catch 10.

I fished for long periods on my local river with a fly, I tried hard not to fail but I never caught anything substantial like I would with a spinner. Maybe I am doing something wrong but I just can't seem to master it. (I have won a competition before on a lake, fishing from the shore for Rainbows.)

fly fishing is the best way to fish hook a 3/4 lb brown on you don`t get better clay man :drink: :drink: :drink:

Hi Clay Man

Once I caught a wild Brown slightly over 1lb about 5-6 years ago in the local but all I can say it was no big shakes. Some of the fish I caught in the local gave me unbelievable scraps. It would be a bad season if I did'nt catch 12-18 Brownies over 2lb in the local, lots over 1lb. My best fish in the river was a 6 3/4lb pike on a worm. Hard to believe but I have a witness.

Strangest thing lots of anglers in the local club would suggest there are no fish in the river but I could always catch fish.

I couldn't agree more. Anyway is it not the closed season for native trout.

How could I forget HORSE, it was some days craic. You caught a 3lb brown trout in the same pool :clapper: , I can remember the rod bending right over, a local angler said a trout that size was never caught in the river. Sorry I had'nt a photo to give to them but we know better! :toast:

If the line had a broke, I would be still be doin porridge!

Lookin forward to a bit of ferreting some day.

Caught many brownie`s on the spinner gold mepp`s is the boy . Hooking a wild brownie on the fly is great fun even the little one`s feel bigger than what they are. Thing with fly fishing on river`s is you need too know your flie`s for each month, and they got to be presented correct if not fish ain`t even gonna bother looking at it. Little spider pattern`s work a treat on my local river. I`ve used the spinner some day`s and the trout will not even look because there feeding on emerger`s , you could flog away all day and not get out on the spinner when there feeding on a specific item. I know a few lad`s who fish lake`s and fishery`s and allway`s catch rainbow`s but put them on the river for the brownie and they struggle . Totally different is river fishing and brownie`s for me will allways be harder too catch than rainbow`s happy fishing everyone FV ;)
