doga 50
dont know why so many would want to slate these good little dogs seen plenty and owned some years gone by,the bedlingtons ive worked with were mute that is the terriers, the whippets also or we would not have used them but ive seen a lot of track bread whippets that have yapped, more than likely thats were the problem manifests but just for those that love the whippet as i do there are plenty that dont yap. Maybe it has been bred out of them now thats not the point I was making. Quote Link to post
Boom 0
IF YOU PUT AN ANTI BARK COLLAR ON A DOG AND ZAPP IT FOR YAPPING WHILE ITS CHASING THE DOG WILL PROBABLY ASSOCATE THE PAIN FROM THE ZAP WITH CHASING THE RABBIT AND IT WONT WANT TO CHASE THEM ANYMORE THAT HAS TO BE ONE OF THE STUPIDEST IDEAS I EVER HEARD SOME DOGS WILL YAP SOME DONT CAN YOU LIVE WITH IT THATS WHAT YOU HAV TO ASK YOUSELF? ITS NOT A HABIT MANY PEOIPLE LIKE TO SEE IN A RUNNING DOG Why would you see it as stupid ? i'm all out of options, this being my last resort. i wont be getting rid of the dog, hes a pet that i've owned for near on two year and im trying my best to break the habbit with no luck.. most people would have got rid by now but im not that type of person... if its not possible to stop him then i'm still gonna keep him, after all hes a pet also.. thanks for the replys guys.. i may just have to buy another dog lol Quote Link to post
Boom 0
Ive a beddyxwhippet that is silent night and day,so that blows the "all beddy x's are yappers" theory out the water.Seems to be fashionable of late to slate beddy x's,well i'm happy with mine. Opening up usually manifest's itself in young dogs, and i personally think it is a frustration thing. Some dogs do grow out of it,but some just never stop.I would try giving the dog easier runs for a while and see if this help's.My old man always reckoned that if a dog was started to early this would contribute to the yapping,as the dog wouldn't have the brains or the speed to do the job right, and would then start yapping out of frustration, then if left unchecked would carry on yapping everytime it was chasing quarry.JMO Edited to say,the use of an "e collar" on lurchers of any kind would be a bad idea, and probably ruin the dog completely. cheers mate. i'm gonna knock the idea on the head lol.... Guest joe ox
Dont use a collar mate it will do more harm than good. Quote Link to post
Marty O Hare 3
Not sure how much you have worked your dog, but as someone else has suggested it may come good given plenty of work, especially easy rabbits if you can manage to find some. You may have already tried this, but if not its worth getting him/her back out their if your gona keep him anyway. Best of luck Quote Link to post
Boom 0
Dont use a collar mate it will do more harm than good. i dont like the idea mate to be honest. its just im out of options. hes a good little dog thats had plenty of bunnys.. took many off the seat too. its just the yapping i cant cope with. i thought he would have grown out of it but he aint Quote Link to post
RAPID 7 1
I SEE IT AS STUPID BECAUSE I HAVE SEEN DOGS GET A SHOCK OF AN E COLLAR WHEN THEY ARE CHASING, A LOT OF PEOPLE USE THEM TO STOP DOGS CHASING SHEEP OR LIVESTOCL. WHEN THE DOG GETS A SHOCK IT WILL JUMP WITH SURPRISE, FRIGHT, IT MIGHT SQUEAL OR YELP IF THE SETTING ON THE COLLAR IS HIGH OR THE DOG IS WET IF ITS OUT LAMPING IN THE RAIN WHAT HAPPENS NEXT IS USUALLY THE DOG QUITS THE CHASE AND COMES BACK TO YOU WITH TAIL BETWEEN LEGS OR IT MIGHT RUN OFF THE OTHER WAY KEEP ON DOING THIS AND THE DOG WILL MAKE A LINK IN ITS MIND BETWEN THE SHOCK AND CHASING THE RABBIT Quote Link to post
Guest fence_hopper
get a beddy greyhound instead that should cure the problem Quote Link to post
