BlueCoyote 0
and its stupid cause i dont know the answer!! never really thought about it much... but he says... in regards to rabies... if you shoot and kill an animal that has rabies(but you didnt know it has rabies) what are the odds of contracting it? like say raccoons.... people hunt them all the time, some even eat them(i hear bar b Qued raccoon is very tasty ) but really.... if you kill it, eat it, and it by some chance happens to have rabies would you even know?? see i dont even know how i would begin to google that question and i havent heard of anyone(LATELY) dying of rabies... only met two people in my life that had to be treated for it.. one was bitten by a bat, and the other was a dumb ass hippy that was feeding wild raccoons out of his back door.... i'm pretty sure its through saliva only, but ... now i'm curious. Guest Ditch_Shitter
Some of the best discussions I've ever seen on this subject ~ between people who potentially deal with that shit on a day to day - if seasonal - basis ~ can probably still be Searched for at Trapperman. paddybarr 77
the chance of contracting rabies would through preparing the carcass ie gutting,is it worth the risk? if i was hunting were rabies was prevelant i would be getting post exposure vaccine, rabies is 100% fatal and 100% preventable and having watched a medical video (i worked for a vaccine company selling rabipur rabies vaccine) of people dying of the disease i wouldnt risk it. In India were they make a local vaccine by infecting goats with rabies killing them and basicialy liquidising the brain matter, they have problems with local dogs becoming infected thro eating the carcass's so i presume the risk is pretty real for human's doing the same

BlueCoyote 0
thanks for the links i am only guessing but it seems it would be obvious if you'd killed a rabid animal because a healthy animal will run away rather than stand and fight - also depends on the type of rabies.. it isnt all aggression.. still something i had never considered before lol i doubt i'll ever get a chance to eat a raccoon and have absolutely no desire to even try eating a possum.... so i think i'm safe there!! Deker 3,478
The risk of contracting many diseases (NOT ALL) is nothing to do with EATING the infected animals. It relates to breathing in infections to the lungs or more commonly being infected directly through the bloodstream....open wounds or bites. You will not get rabies by simply walking past or even touching and infected animal/person. I am not a doctor so do not quote me on all diseases/illnesses, this is just the most common way of contracting many!
