Out last night

Recommended Posts

Went for a quick look around last night as the weather conditions were perfect seen a few bunnies but they were heading for home as soon as the lamp hit them  ...... then a nice squatter in the open , my dog has not quite got to grips with these yet but last night he took this one before it had chance to get far :D then the silly twat dropped it on the way back and lost it  :11: .... next bunnie was a difficult run back and forth the fence line then a good strike and he retreived this one straight back live to hand :D:D ........... off into the next field and another run this bunnie was a lot bigger this time ;) and put up a good run but he soon was in the bag :D almost retrieved but this one was a lot bigger to carry ...... gave the dog a few minutes to get his tongue back in then on to the next field ...... another big rabbit and one hell of a good chase turn after turn , turned off the fence line 5 times  then after what seemed like ages a good strike and he was in the bag too :D:D so all in all a f*****g brilliant time .........

Here's the hero of the hour :clapper:

Molly 2 Rabbits 0

Cracking couple of hours out, rabbits everywhere, must have seen 40-50 and that was in 6/7 fields!

The first couple of rabbits she ran came close to ending up in the game bag, but didn't quite make it...! Run number three I was sure went tits up as dog and rabbit went over the brow of a hill and the muppet holding the lamp (me) lost them both. Before you know it I heard a squeal and it was in the bag.

She carried that rabbit 50 yards back and then started to bugger about a bit so I walked off into the next field. She followed and brought it to within a couple of yards. I called her to heal and generally she brings the game with her and I take it off her after a short distance. This time she left the rabbit behind  so... as it was very much alive I dropped back to pick it.

After that early success, things did not work in her favour. She came very close on a few, though just couldn't connect. Moll was really 'up for it' though and was running perhaps a little too hard, overshooting the rabbits on their first turn.

At this point I was unsure what to do... Stop as luck wasn't with us, or keep going to hopefully end on a successful note? I chose the latter option as the dog was fine. On run number 10ish :icon_eek: she nailed a very large buck rabbit :guitar: though the retrieve on this one was poor. In fairness to the dog, it was a hell of a big rabbit that was squealing like mad and she had worked damn hard for this one.

All in all, a good night out and finished on a high. Still, whether I did the right thing by giving her so many runs I don't know. On the retrieving front, I had been out training her in the morning and she performed some cracking retrives on dead pigeons along some woodland tracks. I just wish I could nail that aspect of her training... Everything else is going according to plan and I'm well pleased :D
