Border X lakeland whippet

What relevance has how good it is at earth work when he wants to cross it with a running dog? It's his bitch and if he wants a leggy type of tyke out of it then crack on bud. Too many on here think the only working terrier is one that goes to ground and your wrong!

I can't see you having problems finding homes for that cross,I'd be interested if you were in Oz.I know people who's Russells were too hard as they like to bolt foxes for the staghounds, they added whippet and the dogs they use now are 25% whippet 75% Russell and are spot on for what they want, you could put the pups back either way depending what your doing and get useful dogs.

On the subject of terrier crosses I saw a bloke walking his newly rescued dog other day, what a beauty. It was a bedlington cross patterdale that had the physical shape and size of a bedlington but was pure black. I bet that would have made some interesting whippet x pups.

why are some of you lads on about earth work if the cross will be for ratting bushing mooching a digging dog wont bring anything to the cross .

I think maybe a few of us have been left a little confused by the post an what direction its gone with this section being the lurcher an running dog section (yes I know it’s technically a lurcher) most people That have sighthound x terrier want it for being used as a running dog That runs for a living not just bushing/rating dog normally I think maybe this post is in the wrong section it’d probably been better in the bushing dog section it would of been positive as people my self including thought this cross was a poor choice as a conventional worker for the more common roll of what a Lurchers all about when in reality there not being bred for lurcher work there being bred for nippy terrier type rat work and nailing the odd rabbit in cover my original comments about whippet x terriers being a poor choice an me finding them not much good  still stands but the work roll is different but it’s horses for courses an all that.

poxon is right they are not running dogs. I only keep this type of little lurcher now. excellent moochers, mine Catches rabbits but you are talking small 20 yard dashes.will work any cover, a natural marker and will take squirrels and odd pheasant. this type is great for ferreting, and bushing. never a dull walk.

if i was looking for a busher ratting mooching about dog i would`nt want any digging blood in it ,,

Why not? if it’s being crossed with say a whippet or a spaniel or beagle etc surly it’s only terrier to terrier you wouldn’t want digging blood given the small size an being able to drop to ground if you didn’t want that risk surly for the bushing/mooching you’d want fearless blooded dogs that wouldn’t be fannys an beat around the bush if something was in cover that offered some heat you’d want dogs with bottle to get in there and get stuck in an see it head on unless your plan is bolting it for running dogs that would be my opinion any way right or wrong I don’t know

I rather the bigger cousin to this cross at the minute for what I’m in to  (bedlington greyhound xs) but can honestly say I’ve said I’d never own another f1 beddy whippet but when I slow down in the lurcher game when my time is done and spent if I can get another bedlington whippet well bred id happily put my feet up with one if it’s just mooching about

Or bring size right down with overdose of whippet blood with what Beddy xs I’ve already got

sadly my friend I am at that stage now. mooching with little dog and single Jill in coat and 8 or 9 nets. bit of longnetting if numbers improve, different days but still enjoying it.

      **sorry for the double post**
I know I'm probably going to get the piss severely ripped out of me for asking this, but
Has anyone ever successfully trained a deaf lurcher (from two working parents and I own her 4 year old sister who is an awesome little bunny basher.)
Genetically she has potential, but...what do you experts think?
She's not a Double merle by the way, it's extreme piebald/white head. Her vision is perfect

Hi to all, so I've never owned a whippet before and have encountered an irritating habit that got worse in the last month of ferreting and was wondering if anyone out there has had success minimising noise during ferreting?
So he runs prey silently, almost never barks at home so I was very happy going into his first winter, but.... when the ferret slot machine is not paying out fast enough for his liking he yips at the holes he senses are near the underground action. On top of that, if he runs a bolted rabbit to ground again he persistently barks at the hole while constantly looking at me as if to say "get them ferrets over here mate, I've got one for you"
I've a very experienced collie lurcher who is a dream to ferret with but the whippet seems to make no reference to the good stuff he does. Any ideas on managing this?

Just got this stunning little bitch, nearly 12 months old, Deerhound x Bedie grey.
I used to go out with my dad's Lurchers when I was a kid but I'm a female in my 30's now and struggling to get back into the swing of things.
I'd love to have this girl knocking down bunnies but I just don't know where to start, I've barely seen a rabbit or and other quarry since I moved here.
Any of you experts in my area fancy giving me some advice/practical experience (hunting related only)
