jigsaw 11,899
after been house bound for several days due to severe rain and winds,i decided on the spur of the moment to head out to where the goats USED to be ..and took the 2 kelpie pups and the old dog Sonic and the Saluki bred Lucifer with me for a jaunt ,they too were kennelled up due to the weather,I left late and arrived just before 9 a.m....met the landowner ,had a chat and went on my way..He told me not a goat had he seen in 12 months ,so i was expecting that and no surprise..I threw the 223 over my shoulder and the mutts speeding around ,enjoying their new found freedom ,we hit the roughest spots i could muster to try slow these mad feckers down,up the grassy path and in to the scrub trees, dense rocky outcrops everywhere and a few ridges we hit the open hillside. across the hill there wasnt a trace of life ,so we trudged for half an hour till we reached the bank that leads to the boundary field, the only field in the area, and i saw a few tracks, something was walking about ,so i carried on and from here on in its a different ball game ,.high ridges and screens of trees ,almost impossible to get through without a swear or curse word every minute from the low lying branches whacking you in the face.....the pups were flying into their new world, theyd never seen any place like this before, they step off a sod and disappear into undergrowth ,and had to scramble or just plain burst their way out ..it was good to see them deal with the unknown, the black lad wasnt too impressed by the looks of him, like a spoilt child that didnt want to go ,he just loped along ,not showing much interest on the surrounding area.Half way across the rough ground i spotted a very recent and well worn path through the long grass and heather..I started hoping ,we might see something,so i continued on....I had to climb the first ridge of the day and getting up the rocky heather strewn face of it is hard enough when its been dry,but when its been pouring for days non stop ,its downright hard and dangerous..I scrambled, swore as i slipped back down at times and then soaked through ,i scrambled to the top,
Popular Post jigsaw 11,899
I was walking closely along the edge ,when i saw sonic freeze, that distinctive stare in to nothingness but you know its not just nothingness, its nothingness with somethingness thrown in ....he froze and stared and i knew he knew.... so i dropped off the ridge and scrambled on to the next one ,where i could hear the bleating of Goats ,GLORIOUS f***ing GOATS....and looking far out i could see them..not many ,but some ...more than ive seen in a very long time so all was good ... i was praying the old b***%*d wouldnt take off on one and spoil the whole show ,so i grumbled at the mutt, and told him behave,DO NOT MOVE FROM ME i crossly said...i think he understood..i got to the the base of the ridge i was on ,and across open bog to reach the next ridge(you see a pattern forming here)...and i climbed like a 30 stone gorilla, slipping sliding cussing and swearing, the pups all the time thinking it was a great bit of sport..I reached the top,i swore again at Sonic ,DONT YOU FU***NG MOVE he looked back understandingly...I laid down, spoted a fine big billy, and placed the cross hairs on his shoulder, held my breath and pulled ,direct hit ,but he took off, into the trees behind him...then i thought i heard Sonic scream F**k YOU,and he took off at a speed only a 12 year old dog could muster up and dissapeared into the trees in pursuit of the rest of the gang..now thats all well and good ,but i only wanted 1 goat as i was miles from the car,and this little shit was hell bent on repeating his old party trick and find his own conquest..i hadnt gotten 50 yards and i hear the tell tale screams of a goat down..the little bo**ix had connected, and floored a goat..By the time i got there the job was done and old sonic was having a bath, lying in a pool of water cooling off 25
Popular Post jigsaw 11,899
I did the cleaning ,and dragged the nice tidy nanny to an open spot and thought id better find the one id shot, the pups were well impressed with the new ''toy'' ,tearing and pulling at it ,as i tried to get thought the shite ahead..When i got to the rocks i shoved the goat on top and off we went to find big boy billy i had shot,i searched a while when i found him lying on the base of a rock face all over and done with life ,,f**k me he was big ,and i was far away..i knew i was in trouble now ,so the necessities done i had the unenvious task of dragging the meat back to the car,and boy did i suffer...the old boy was bushed, and i was no better when i got back the pups were still playing, the black saluki dog has left me with lots of doubt as to his future ,he didnt want to know about any of it and never once even cocked his ears when hell was on going..so we will see how he turns out ..but it was a good outing ,but there isnt enough goats to be shooting at regular intervils unless you want to eradicate them all together..which is a pity..lets hope they breed this year and get the numbers back to what they used to be ...Sonics bottom jaw is almost toothless, his fangs are gone as are most of his molars, from wrestling different things over the years i suppose,i will have to leave him behind cause today he is stiff and sore under the heat lamp.Lets hope these kelpies are game for a laugh in tim...we will see, Edited January 13, 2020 by jigsaw 34
