just been reading socks post and i dont want to spoil it .as its a good post ... ...and he seems to know his stuff on this netting and ferreting malarky.... :D ...but theres seems to be a few daft reMARKS on the post ...

so i was just wondering what you folks think about this ..????we all know the bunny and most other quarry is easier on the lamp ,,than day time .....iam not saying they are easy just easier ... :D:D ...so if the lamp effects the bunny and hinders other quarry with the light ..dazzeling what ever you want to call it ... ....does it effect the dog ....i.e does the dog run better day time ....if not ...why ???? why doesnti it effect the dog ...because it effects all other animals on the lamp ... ......cant wait for the replys on this one .... :D:D

I have a 7yr old dog here and he is very experienced on the lamp.. and it did not stop him from nearly breaking his back/kneck last week when he hit a fence head on at full speed not to mention all the other injuries my dog's have had through running blinded by the lamp..

I would say daytime is much safer and a pup will learn more daytime than being lamped where it will not gain much experience from running blind..

Daytime for a pup all the time untill they have had a good bit of experience on anything.. with maybe the odd run on the lamp aslong as you know the land..

so really what you are saying is this in a round about sort off way ....is this ...and if you are,, these were my veiws to ...to lamp a young dog can be a risky time ..the reason being its not used to it ..so the reason it dosnt effect a lamp dog when you are lamping is because its learnt about the light i.e got used to it  and uses it to his advantage once hes worked with one for a while .... ...now i would call that a dog useing its brain .... :D ..just like a lamp shy rabbit ...now they can be hard to catch ...why ..because they know whats coming .....the moral of the story is this.... it dosnt effect the dog because its got used to it ..the quarry is easier to catch because they arnt used to it ......its that simple ........all the best snoop :D

it started by a lamp dog doesnt need brains  i think it does actually more, iam sure it has to be a more carefull runner?it cant just be a fast dog it needs to read its prey more,we all know it cant see hand signalls and silence is golden out there at night, and one person said a daytime dog HAS to have a good nose well what about a night time dog NO NOSE are just know not to use it because surelly theres plenty of scent out there on its return to its master  my oppinion a night dog is much more of a skilled dog,and iam talking rabbits only here, the retreive for my dogs is always in pure darkness not like the daytime dog, mark

i know how it started mark ....and why does a lamp dog need more brains ..once its got used to working the lamp its to the dogs advantage ......a lamp dog does have to use its brains yes ...but to catch a daytime rabbit is harder because then ...its the dog agaisnt the rabbit ..not a dog and a lamp agaisnt the rabbit ......

is it not even both dog and prey are runing under false light,i suppose you will say that the dog is more used to it,but the rabbits knows the ground were it is being hunted a lot better, and obstacles are out there in the night and easier for the dog to hit then the day,but we agree the lamoing dog needs a brain but the debate is ,as much as the daytime dog are not, definatly more, mark

my dog does ok night and day ....not the best at any ..but hes does ok ... ..the light is on the dog as much as its on the quarry .....but a seasoned lamp dog has the advantage ..because he used to that light ...and has learnt how to run in the beam ..a rabbit or any other quarrythat isnt used to bright lights shining in its face hasnt so it confuses the quarry ...we have all heard the phrase lamp shy ...now if every thing we ran was lamp shy we wouldnt be getting half as much quarry .......why... beause it now know what the lamp is so its not an advantage to the dog anymore ....

Put it like this,Mark...................you said your brindle bitch took seventy in one night on the lamp 8)

Could she take anywhere near that number in the day on the same ground :hmm:

The answer is quite clearly.....................NO

Why?...............because,1.They feed further out under the cover of darkness so the dog has a better chance :ninja:

2.THEY ARE HINDERED BY THE BRIGHT LIGHT SHINING AT EM

You can see rabbits feeding quite happily by the roadside during the day,but you will see plenty of roadkill..............99%

of it killed at night after being DAZZELED by the headlights :icon_eek:;)

i think this isnt about numbers, could she catch big numbers when i bolt rabbits for the dogs with the ferrets without nets in the day yes of coarse she does, when i was a kid we would walk miles for a rabbit and never catch one,but hares we had loads of ok them dogs wernt hare dogs but we would catch 2 often,we had no rabbits due to mxy 60s and 70s but like i said bolt rabbits fo the dogs with the ferrets yes we catch good nus, mark
