Meece 1,958
Get behind me satan. every year we have a big get together for Christmas and I don't mind it. Personally I dont like christmas and would rather be doing something else somewhere where it is hot. ...... Not Australia! ! Our family Christmas get together has gotten so big that people can't put up with it. Not because of the cost or personality clashes but space. I've always said come when you want and go when you want. This year things have changed and moved on as everyone has their own family now and they want to do their own thing and their partners have their families that they want to go to. Along with the fact that the wife's mother is in a home at deaths door, so the Mrs has her own things to deal with. So it is now our turn to go to them for Christmas. Every day we are at a different place. This has really thrown the Mrs because she is used to doing all of the thought and preparation and when we were out shopping the other day she is wanting to load trolleys with food stuff and I have told her "NO we don't need it". We don't need four joints of meat, we don't need six boxes of crackers, we don't need almost anything because someone else is doing it a different way. I can see her wanting to get involved in these do's but she is going to have to come to terms with just letting them feed us and provide for us, "for the times they are a changing", i dont know how much we spend on christmas but this year it will be not a lot and about time to. To each their own. And if you enjoy that all the better. That to me would be a nightmare. I really don't like Christmas, but having to spend it with a load people would be hell lol. Merry Christmas to you and yours, enjoy. Atb j

Atb j I hate Christmas and all of the hypocrisy of taking what should be a christian festival and mutating it into a commercial self serving excuse for nothingness is not lost on me. I would much greater be out on the shoot alone with the dog but it is easier to go with the flow and put up with it for the period than to be classed as a miserable git. Our Christmas extravaganza has been good and because it has been a laid back affair where people don't feel obliged to conform to any set agenda coming and going as suits them it has all been very agreeable with no personallity clashes. I have thoughts on how it wiĺ be now that its not at our house ect. I move forward with optimism. Time wiĺ tell. Maybe when the Mrs mother finally karks it I might get her to come somewhere warm on our own.

Welsh_red 4,671
I like it because of the kids. I like spoiling them . Nothing drastic money wise but a game or 2 for their console , compound bow for them both to share , and other bits and bobs . My dad who has gotten older/grizzlier/crankier as the years have gone by and injuries are taking over has gone from not even bothering with xmas tree after me and my brother moved out to getting one specially in for my kids and he waits on pins for us to turn up . My mum reckons grandkids being around and re energised him . For me thats christmas . Me and my family at mums and dads , dad winding kids up and laughing, my little girl helping him in the kitchen sorting the food , me and mrs plonked on the sofa with a beer and a smoke . That i activly look forward to . Plus 10 days off work with the mrs is very much needed . Been working loads last 6 months on weekends and late nights . 5
