Keeps 403 Posted January 6, 2008 Report Share Posted January 6, 2008 Well for us in any case and in fact the first time ever for others (our daughter and her boyfriend decided to come with us - Im not holding any rats mind she said ) We had an invite down to deep digs for a spot of ratting today, packed up the car last night and set off very early for the long journey. Last time we visited this place was early April, but today it was still very overgrown, lots of brambles and bracken around to hinder us so it wasnt an easy place for the dogs to catch. Heres a few pics of the day, some are a bit grainy, not the best quality as the light at times wasn't great. We had some sleet early morning but once that went it wasnt too bad, in fact not as cold as we've had the past few days. We made our way round the pens, smoked some and dug some, with shouts of here here echoing around as the rats bolted and we all jumped about like idiots (just to make a change ). Quite a few of the dogs with us were pups and had done very little, if any ratting before, but they will soon become accustomed to it midge and her daughters We accounted for 25 rats in total, not a huge amount, but very hard won and we spent an enjoyable day in good company, thanks deep dig for the invite Quote Link to post

Wasnt the best of places for a lurcher ratting, most of the rats caught were under low bushes in thick undergrowth (rhodendron bushes too) and there were no runners as the rats didnt get chance to escape far. I wouldnt take my own lurchers ratting by choice, but mine are much bigger than this one and he is part terrier in any case Not the easiest of places for a terrier to rat, let alone a lurcher Quote Link to post
