Gone and done it

I once shot a rabbit through the head and the bullet bounced off the turf the other side and screamed for thirty yards and then hit dead center an empty steel pheasant feeder.

The dent in the steel was similar to a dent made by a sub 12 air rifle!

A zinging bullet sounds worse than it is and in fact the noise is a clear sign of rapid energy conversion and usually does not last long.

I remember years ago thinking a golf ball was a good air rifle target, till the pellet whizzed past my head.  Never shot ant golf balls after that

Nice to hear that but some say they can travel another 1000 m

The sound of a .22 bullet ricochet is more pronounced than the same from an airgun pellet, but they are losing energy rapidly and will soon fall to earth. Bullets silently skimming off short grass will travel further, but after another 100 yards they’ll most likely be back on the ground depending on the angle of course. I’ve seen the damage they do 50 yards beyond ricochet point and I’d estimate 20-25 ft lbs residual energy from a standard subsonic bullet. No room for complacency but so long as you’ve got a safe back drop, as with any shot with any gun.?. You soon get to know them.?

I cannot understand why people want to push fac air to rimfire performance why not just buy .22 rimfire it runs cheaper, rifles cost hell lot cheaper and they don't need topping up with air from a dive bottle, I got fx fac air at 30 flbs its all the power i need from air and it can be used were .22 rimfire cannot go. my rifles in order are .22 fx adjustable power fac air - .22 rimfire - .17 hmr - 22.250, that takes care of everything and all situations for me  except deer, and the usual selection of shotguns.

FAC air works out cheaper £11 tin of pellets (500) or £11 for 200 slugs , ok you have to a dive bottle but after that £4 to fill your bottle and  about 25 fills to your gun

If the airgun is capable of running at a higher level , why not ,saves buying another gun and with these new slugs they are on par with .22 rimfire

But dude, you have bought another gun!

Like most of us do.

One could buy a second hand  rimfire for peanuts and it will shoot just as good as a new one.

A person could get a licence, lock up and a 22 for £200. Your not gonna match that with air.

And they don't leak.

We're all the same, shooters can justify anything, look at me, I use muzzleloaders. How crackers is that?

The 22lr will have the potential for ricochet Mitch but thats is where backdrops and safe distance come in to play but don't over think it. I have gone a bought another rimmy simply because most of our perms are on the Lincolshire wolds and prone to winds which at times can be a real pain, the rimmy with hv ammo or subs can give an advantage over the pellet. the other reason is that we have one farmer who is seriously pestered by hares when the sugar beet starts to show and whilst my .25 fac Impact will stop one, I prefer to use the 40gr slug as a better stopper than the 25gr pellet on hares.

I am also happier to get the rimmy wet compared to the Impact although I do not normally shoot in the rain unless we are on the estate where I can shoot from the car window. They are a useful tool Mitch and in my mind more so than the .17hmr which is why even though I have a slot on my ticket, I don't have much use for one but that doesn't mean that I will not buy one however.....................perhaps.

Same here Phil, I use .22 at least ten times more than.17 it’s so versatile. If I need more I usually reach for the hornet.  But then, if I’m on mouse patrol.............?
