RAPID 7 1
I WOULD SAY A DAYTIME DOG HAS TO CONCERNTRATE ON A LOT MORE THINGS IF ITS HUNTING UP ITS USING ITS NOSE WHICH A LAMP DOG DOESNT DO, IF ITS WORKING WITH NETS AND FERRETS IT HAS TO LUSTEN AND WATCH TO WATS GOING ON, RESPECT THE NETS BE AWARE OF WHERE THE RABBITS ARE GOING TO BOLT AND SO ON. ALL A LAMPING DOG HAS TO DO IS SEE THE RABBIT RUN IT AND CATCH IT. IVE BEEN LAMPING WITH SOME LADS WHO DONT LET THERE DOGS OFF THE LEAD UNLESS ITS ON A RUN, IF IT JUMPS A FENCE THEY KEEP IT ON THE LEAD PRESUME SO IT DONT RUN OFF? A LOT OF PEOPLE LIKE LAMPING COS ITS A PEICE A PISS AND THE DOGS DONT NEED TO BE MUCH SMARTER THAN THE OWNER Quote Link to post

luke 2
i cant see the difference between a day time coursing dog and a night time one both required to course quarry and either kill it and bring it back or miss it and return to heel a pup could have success on its first outing on the lamp the only thing that will improve with experiance is the dogs timing which only the dog can learn it cant be taught a ferreting dog takes a lot more training more than i am capable of were i am more than capable of the other two as its only the basics you need the rest is up to the dog so requires little human in put the rest is instinct but i think its sad that a few had to spoil a good thread for no aparent reason Quote Link to post

Guest markbrick1
Rapid 7 is there anyone on this site who knows who you are can vouch for you?thats the problem with these sites, nobody knows who there talking to,ive been lucky enough to meet a few people on these sites and even walk out with a few,but there are some who just like a plain old argument and cant wait to get in from school to start one for a person like me who loves his lamping and does and done his fair share of daytime stuff a comment like a lamping dog doesnt need a brain gets me pissed right of,especally when it come from people who generally should know a bit,we are divided in this argument but favouring the day dog a little more i will now leave this alone and go on to somthing else, anyway 1 hr and iam of lamping with me thick untrained muts mark Quote Link to post
Guest The Big Fish
Mark, my dog is faster than yours Quote Link to post
salukixminshaw 1
Were not on about a dogs running style or experience here were on about a brain as in obedience...what great brain power is needed for lamping, does all lamping require super intelligent half cross collies/greys??? NO does it f**k...so your saying if the dog dosent sit give you a paw and work with ferrets its thick ??your saying a lamp dog dosent need a brain answer my question a coursing dog dosent brain A coursing dogs ability is its running style, speed and stamina..if the dogs got these and gets experience then it will make the grade, it doesn't require a high IQ or that similar to a collie cross to do these does it? So to answer your question, lamping with dogs does not require a super intelligent dog NO! so what your saying is all sight hounds have no brain so youll not need a brain to point a gun and shoot somthing?? IanB 0
What dogs do I run none, there all dead...all whilst lamping one way or another.. No I'm not saying all sight hounds have no brain at all.....The arguement was that lamping dogs need to be "brainy" as it was put, in fact more "brainy" than a dog used for working during daylight hours, with nets, obeying commands and working cover, etc.. Which is as I state bollocks.. No you don't need a brain to shoot something with a gun....I do it all the time...I'm braindead :db: Quote Link to post
