How many people write off a cross or type, after seeing maybe only one, two or three of said cross/types? Or not even seeing one.... I've seen a fair few DH crosses over the years, were to a penny when I was a youngster, some alright some not so, plus owned a couple, so reckon I have a right to an opinion. As to pures seen a few run and never been overly impressed, IMO they've not a patch on the hybrid. Edited November 30, 2019 by sandymere 2 Quote Link to post

Seen quite a few deer/greys 1st cross, and 3/4 grey/deerhound, most of which were very useful. Then crossed back to a 1st cross or 3/4 bred collie/grey, the resulting pups went on to become superb all round lamp dogs 1 Quote Link to post
two crows 3,342
I genuinely think looking back allot of what were described as deerhound greyhounds, were deerhound lurchers rely, ie something else in the mix, the better ones anyway, most things that fall out of favour do so for a reason, usualy because something better comes along, look at all the regional collie types that have fallen by the wayside because of the border collie's superiority. 6 Quote Link to post

Do you think they fell out of favour due to the introduction of the saluki and hybrids for the coursing scene alot better stamina and the bull hybrids for teeth. The deer grey imo is a jack of all trades master of non. Well maybe one. Quote Link to post
Gilbey 1,430
And lots of the people that had them aren't on the scene anymore 3 1 Quote Link to post

Well maybe one. yes I do, but for all round lurchers they are a good ingredient, they add a calm watchfull temp in mho, and gilbey is right the lads that kept them in their hayday are old now or gone, from the coursing aspect some were absorbed in to the melting pot along with most things. 2 1 Quote Link to post

The modern day border ollie his not a. Patch on the old region l type collies to much eye in the modern types robotic need to much instruction trialling fine they Maybey. But that's where it ends a good old sorts the sort fa breeding jukels from if that's the way ta want ta go there's ole ty farm yard type gohs collie type that ain't mad flecked up and far superior da the production of a jukel atb bill Quote Link to post
