Nice dog. Would you say he hunts better and uses his nose more than your average lurcher?

Yes he definitely would be a better hunter than some  crosses.  he would hunt the air a lot and will follow ground sent he has found a lot of stuff for us.

i use him a lot with terriers he is 100% on a mark and not afraid to get stuck in when he has to.

I like the sound of that. Most Lurcher’s I’ve had will follow a sent if there’s something about, but they don’t offen go searching for sent, like the way a spaniel goes or probably a pointer too (I’ve never actually seen a pointer work in the flesh, only on you tube.) When game is thin on the ground a dog that’s looks for sent would be great.

when i said he was getting on in years well so am i 

i have hunted with lurchers for years, collie crosses wheaten crosses and bull crosses

and every thing else in between

breeding a litter of pups never entered my head until now 

i would hate to lose this line so watch this space 

you know what they say

I reckon you'd get some decent animals if you were to cross to a coursing type, not a plodder though.

Do you not think you would dilute the pointer blood down too much though. The idea of the cross would be its hunting ability. Mind you it would still be a 1/4 gwp

I suppose its all about what you want from the pups, for me any loss of speed would be detrimental to what i would use a dog for but others would have a different mind. Perthaps the answer might be to go back to a half cross to look to get a type in the longer term.
